    Descrição

Gender Advocate (Peer Counselor) BIPOC Cohort

Rooted in Joy: BIPOC Gender Advocate Training Cohort

Our Rooted in Joy: BIPOC Gender Advocate Training Cohort is led by trans BIPOC, for trans BIPOC.

This 10-week, 25-hour training equips you to provide grounded, gender-affirming support to trans peers. You’ll learn community mental health tools, practice holding space with confidence, and grow alongside a cohort of BIPOC peers committed to collective liberation.

    About TACT:

TACT (Trans Advocacy & Care Team) is a growing trans-led nonprofit helping trans and nonbinary people thrive. Since 2021, we’ve supported over 1,500 folks across 44 states, providing peer counseling and community resources.

    What Gender Advocate Volunteers Do:

As a Gender Advocate, you’ll provide one-on-one peer support via Zoom, offer compassionate listening, guide peers through transition journeys, help them access resources, and center their lived experiences in a supportive, affirming way.

As a Gender Advocate, you will:

    • Provide 1-on-1 peer support via Zoom to trans adults
    • Offer compassionate listening and guidance
    • Help peers access resources and navigate systems
    • Follow up to ensure peers get the support they need
    • Center the lived experiences and cultural context of peers
    • Prioritize the confidentiality and privacy of your peer

    Time Commitment:

    • 10-week training (30 hours total)
      • Every Tuesday (Jan 6 - Mar 10, 2026)
      • 4:30 - 7pm PST / 7:30 - 10pm EST
    • 4+ hours/week volunteering as a peer counselor for at least 6 months after training ends
    • After training ends, you can set your own flexible, remote schedule for volunteering

    Volunteer Benefits:

    • Make a meaningful impact supporting other trans and nonbinary folks
    • Gain hands-on peer counseling experience
    • Build connections with a supportive trans-led community
    • Receive mentorship and recommendations for future opportunities
    • Strengthen skills and gain experience for grad programs or careers in counseling, mental health, social work, public health, advocacy, and other related fields

    We’re Looking For Folks Who:

    • Identify as trans/nonbinary/two-spirit and BIPOC
    • Have strong listening and communication skills
    • Are empathetic, organized, reliable, and emotionally grounded
    • Have a passion for uplifting and supporting trans communities
    • Preferred but not required: prior experience with counseling, advocacy, or marginalized communities

TACT is committed to the inclusion of all members of our community. We welcome and strongly encourage folks from historically marginalized and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, including BIPOC, trans-feminine folks, folks with disabilities, and folks from working-class backgrounds to apply.
