Invitation to our Board
Greeting from Independent Living Housing, Inc. (ILHI). We are a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization established for the charitable purpose of providing life skills and educational services to developmentally challenged youth, young adults, and adults in Detroit. ILH was founded in 1998 and has positively impacted the lives of our 3, 000 youth, and young adults and 140 Detroit parents.
We are contacting you regarding our open positions on our Board of Directors. We are organizing our Board of Directors for the next two years and we are seeking qualified and engaged members of the community to serve. Our ability to create positive educational and social outcomes for our developmentally challenged youth, young adults, and adults depends on the quality of leadership we can attract and ability to work together. Together we believe we can create positive change within the learning disabilities communities. We would like to take the time to tell you more about us, our Mission and positive ways we intend to impact the learning disabled population of Detroit.
Executive Director, Ruth Shortie, has been inspired by personal experience with her own son's Clifton struggles with learning disabilities. Shortie has made ILH her life's work as she has firsthand experiences with her son and lack of support for Special Education students in Detroit. statistics that show the City of Detroit is having a crisis in Special Education. With the help of volunteers and donation, ILH strives to make a difference in Detroit Public Schools, through in school workshops, intervention/prevention programs, shelters and specialized housing.
