The Chicago Help Initiative provides a substantial, hot meal every Wednesday at the Catholic Charities building in River North. This meal caters to approximately 150 individuals, including those experiencing homelessness, seniors on a fixed income, and people with mental and/or physical disabilities. Before and after the meal we hold a variety of peer groups.
Our Games Club meets at around 5:15 pm, when people finish eating. We have a variety of games to choose from, like backgammon, checkers, chess, dominos, etc.
We have a vibrant UNO club, but could use a volunteer or two to play chess or other games.
For this volunteer position you will need to be patient, and have a good sense of humor and a kind disposition. You would be welcome to come every Wednesday, but also could come on occasional Wednesdays. You need to know how to play chess. You do not need to be a good chess player.
Go to the front door and tell the security guard why you are there. They will direct you.
