Impact Storytelling & Content Coordinator
Detalhes
Descrição
Find the story in the numbers — and help us tell it.
A spreadsheet can tell us that hundreds of people applied for emergency assistance. A story can help someone understand why that matters.
Trans Empowerment Project is looking for a volunteer Impact Storytelling & Content Coordinator to help us transform program data, participant stories, photos, testimonials, and outcomes into compelling content that shows people what our work actually accomplishes.
You'll work especially closely with TEP's Emergency Rapid Response Microgrant Program, helping us document both the need we're seeing in 2TIGE communities and the tangible impact of putting resources directly into people's hands.
This isn't strictly a writing role. It isn't strictly a data role. And it isn't strictly a graphic design role. It's about finding the meaningful story hiding inside all of those things — and then figuring out the best ways to tell it.
What You'll Do
Find the Story in the Data
We'll give you information. You'll help us figure out what it means.
That might include:
- Application and participation data
- Demographic information
- Funding totals and program outcomes
- Participant testimonials and submitted stories
- Photos and other community-generated content
- Survey responses and feedback
- Historical program data
- Information about unmet need
You'll look for patterns, meaningful statistics, trends, individual stories, and connections that help explain both why our programs are necessary and what happens when they're funded.
You won't be expected to conduct advanced statistical analysis. You will need to be comfortable looking at data and asking good questions:
What's important here? What's surprising? What does this tell us? What would help someone understand the human reality behind this number?
Turn Impact Into Content
A good story shouldn't live in one place. You'll help turn what we're learning into content that can be adapted across TEP's communications, including:
- Social media posts and carousels
- Impact graphics and infographics
- Blog posts and longer-form stories
- Email and newsletter content
- Website content
- Donor communications
- Fundraising appeals
- Program updates
- Impact reports and summaries
- Sponsorship and partnership materials
- Campaign content
For example, one collection of microgrant data might become a blog post explaining what we're seeing, three social graphics highlighting key findings, a participant story, a newsletter feature, and a short impact summary that our fundraising team can share with prospective partners.
You don't have to create every piece of content yourself. You'll collaborate with TEP's communications team and volunteer Graphic Designers when something needs additional writing, design, or production support.
The important part is being able to recognize what story we have and all the useful ways we could tell it.
Center People, Not Just Numbers
Impact storytelling comes with responsibility. Many of the people who access TEP programs are navigating financial hardship, discrimination, housing instability, disability, violence, or other deeply personal circumstances.
We never want someone's hardest moment reduced to fundraising content.
You'll help us tell stories in ways that:
- Respect participant privacy, consent, and dignity.
- Center people's agency rather than portraying them as helpless.
- Avoid trauma-porn and sensationalism.
- Provide context around individual experiences.
- Connect personal stories to larger systemic issues when appropriate.
- Celebrate joy, resilience, community, and possibility alongside hardship.
- Follow TEP's guidelines for using participant stories, photos, and identifying information.
Our goal isn't to make someone's life sound as tragic as possible so somebody opens their wallet.
It's to help people understand the reality our communities are navigating, see what their support makes possible, and recognize why sustained investment matters.
Help Us Capture Impact Throughout the Year
Impact storytelling works best when it isn't something we suddenly remember we need three days before a grant report is due. You'll help us build better habits around documenting our work by:
- Reviewing incoming stories and community-generated content.
- Identifying strong storytelling opportunities.
- Organizing content so useful stories and data don't disappear into forgotten folders.
- Helping identify information we should be collecting from participants.
- Maintaining a pipeline of potential impact content.
- Helping plan when and where stories should be shared.
- Collaborating with communications, fundraising, and program volunteers to make sure strong content actually gets used.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You...
- Are a strong storyteller who can find the human meaning behind information and numbers.
- Can take a pile of data, quotes, notes, and stories and identify the narrative connecting them.
- Are comfortable interpreting basic data, percentages, trends, and program outcomes.
- Can explain complicated information clearly without oversimplifying it.
- Understand that different platforms require different kinds of storytelling.
- Can imagine how one story might become a blog post, infographic, social carousel, email feature, and fundraising message rather than simply copying and pasting the same content everywhere.
- Have strong writing and editing skills.
- Have good visual instincts, even if you aren't a professional graphic designer.
- Are thoughtful about consent, privacy, representation, and ethical storytelling.
- Can work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
- Are organized enough to manage multiple pieces of content and source material.
- Care deeply about trans communities and share TEP's commitment to racial, disability, economic, and gender justice.
Experience & Tools
Previous experience with impact storytelling, nonprofit communications, journalism, content strategy, digital communications, fundraising communications, data visualization, program evaluation, or similar work is a big plus.
We don't expect you to be an expert in all of those things, but we are looking for someone who can demonstrate a strong combination of storytelling, content creation, and data literacy.
Familiarity with MemoryFox, Canva, and Metricool is especially helpful, but not required. We're happy to teach you the specific platforms and workflows TEP uses.
You don't need to be an advanced graphic designer — we have a separate volunteer role for that — but comfort creating simple, polished content in Canva is useful.
What We'll Provide
You won't be handed a spreadsheet and told, "Make us look impactful. Good luck!"
TEP will provide access to relevant program data, participant stories and submissions approved for use, historical information, organizational messaging, brand guidance, and context from the people who actually run the programs.
You'll collaborate with program, communications, fundraising, and design team members to make sure the content you create is accurate, ethical, useful, and aligned with our larger goals.
What Success Looks Like
This role is successful when:
- Important program data doesn't sit unused in a spreadsheet.
- Participant stories don't disappear into a folder after they're collected.
- Our community understands not only what TEP does, but why it matters.
- Donors can clearly see what their contributions make possible.
- Potential funders and sponsors have compelling evidence of both community need and program impact.
- One strong story or dataset becomes multiple useful pieces of content.
- TEP has a growing library of impact stories, statistics, graphics, and other materials that can support communications and fundraising throughout the year.
Ultimately, we want people to encounter TEP's impact content and come away thinking: I understand the need. I see what this organization is doing about it. And I want to help them do more.
