Bronx Legal Services (https://www.legalservicesnyc.org/boroughs/bronx-legal-services/) seeks law students to intern with its Education Law Unit during the summer of 2026. Bronx Legal Services is the largest provider of free civil legal services in the borough, and the largest single Legal Services office in New York City. Our mission is to advance society's promise to its most vulnerable members that all are entitled to equal access to justice through our legal system.
Our Education Law Unit represents students with disabilities, and advocates for them to receive appropriate educational placements and services. Our goal is to support our clients by ensuring they have the academic and social – emotional support they need to flourish and progress in school. We have a holistic wrap-around model of advocacy, and a commitment to community-centered work. We seek to interrupt the school to prison pipeline, and foster the development of school environments that are supportive, enriching, and address trauma. We do this through representation at impartial hearings, IEP meetings, school suspension hearings, MDR’s and appeals and federal litigation. We are continuing work on an exciting project to foster Healing Centered Schools in the Bronx.
Summer interns become an integral part of the Unit, and participate in all unit activities. Direct client contact is anticipated, as well as research, drafting, and participation in individual case and policy meetings.
Interested individuals should send a cover letter, resume and writing sample via email to Nanette Schorr, Director Education Law Unit, nschorr@lsnyc.org
