Bilingual (Bosnian) Client Shopping Assistant Translator - Mobile Food Pantry

Walk alongside and translate for seniors as they “shop” at UCOM’s mobile food pantry and help create a supportive, dignified experience. As a Client Shopping Assistant, you’ll help neighbors choose foods that fit their preferences, dietary needs, and program guidelines—ensuring everyone receives their fair share.

In this role, you will:

• Greet each shopper and explain item limits at the start of the line
• Assist with selecting foods based on preferences or dietary needs (low-sodium, diabetes-friendly, softer foods, etc.)
• Help carry or place items in carts/bags for neighbors with mobility challenges
• Monitor quantities and kindly enforce limits to ensure fairness
• Answer simple questions about products and refer to staff when needed
• Maintain program integrity (no eating, saving, or taking food)
• Follow food safety standards, including proper food separation, safe handling of meats, and keeping food elevated and organized

Position requirements:

• Able to speak and translate Bosnian
• Able to lift at least 10 lbs and carry grocery bags short distances
• Comfortable standing and walking slowly for a 2–3 hour shift
• Willing to assist with brief set-up or clean-up
• Reliable transportation for off-site locations
