Covington Independent Public Schools has a growing number of EL students that face a unique set of challenges in their educational journey. We are seeking Spanish-speaking volunteer mentors to join our program to provide our EL students the opportunity to connect with an adult role model. Mentors are matched with a 3rd-5th grade student and spend 30 minutes together weekly during the student’s scheduled lunchtime.
Each mentor is provided with a guide for optional activities and conversations that will help the mentor and student get to know each other and enhance the time spent together. Board games, puzzles, arts and craft supplies, flashcards, and activity books are also available for use during visits.
The opportunity is conveniently offered at all five elementary schools in Covington Independent Public Schools. All mentoring matches have access to a mentoring coordinator, who is available to support and guide the relationship if mentors should have any questions or concerns.
