Job Description
The kitchen volunteers for each session serve as head chef for one week, responsible for feeding all of camp (campers, volunteers, staff, etc) daily breakfast and dinner.
Daily Responsibilities
- Plan and execute breakfast and dinner
- Breakfast duties from 6AM-9:30AM
- Dinner duties from 3:30-7PM
- Meal times may vary
- Communicate any supply needs to the kitchen manager with appropriate advanced notice
- Follow proper serve safe regulations and uphold a clean, safe kitchen
- Be aware of all dietary differences and plan dietary friendly alternatives for each difference
- All first time kitchen volunteers must attend volunteer orientation
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to cook for ~60-80 people at a time
- Recipe lead and execution (intricate/creative recipes are not a must)
- Ability to be on your feet for ~3 hour time chunks
- A solid understanding of food safety and how to uphold commercial kitchen standards of safety
- ServSafe Certified (Food Handler level; camp will reimburse for this course)
- Have a passion for cooking in large quantities
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to lift heavy boxes
- Have worked in a culinary setting
Other Information
- Permitted one night off to enjoy a camp activity, must be communicated to the kitchen manager with proper notice
- Various events involving meals away from camp
- Weekly beach cookouts
- Breakfast on the beach
- To-go dinners
- At least one volunteer in the kitchen must be able to lift over 30lbs
- Lunch is covered by direct care volunteers and this time will be off for kitchen volunteers
- Communication with these volunteers allows lunch cooks to know what is available/which ingredients are available.
- The volunteer can turn in up to $300 for travel reimbursement.
- Volunteers will be housed and fed for the duration of their stay
