    Compliance Manager

    Company Description Apex Para Athletics is an organization dedicated to advancing inclusive, high-performance sports opportunities for para athletes.     Role Description The Compliance Manager is a volunteer part-time hybrid role responsible for overseeing regulatory, ethical, and policy adherence across Apex Para Athletics programs and operations. This role involves developing and maintaining compliance policies, waivers, liability forms, registration forms, medical forms and procedures, monitoring activities to ensure alignment with sports governance standards and applicable laws, and coordinating periodic compliance reviews and audits. The Compliance Manager will review documentation, assess risk, and recommend corrective actions where needed, while maintaining accurate records and reports for leadership and relevant external bodies. Day-to-day tasks include advising staff and volunteers on compliance requirements, responding to compliance-related inquiries, and supporting training sessions on topics such as athlete safety, data protection, and organizational conduct. The role collaborates with internal stakeholders and external partners to promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

    Regulatory & Legal: Review annual state and federal filing requirements (e.g., 990 filings, charitable solicitation registrations, tax-exempt status continuity).

    Policy Review: Audit existing organizational policies (conflict of interest, whistleblower, data privacy, document retention) on a semi-annual basis.

    Risk Assessment: Conduct a bi-annual risk assessment covering insurance coverage, operational safety, and data security standards.

    Training & Guidance: Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and host occasional 30-minute guidance sessions for board members or staff.

    Qualifications

    • Experience with compliance management, policy development, and risk assessment in sports, nonprofit, or regulated environments.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop organization waivers, liability forms, registration forms, medical forms and assist with contracts as needed.
    • Knowledge of relevant regulations, ethical standards, and best practices related to athlete safety, data privacy, and organizational governance.
    • Strong analytical, documentation, and reporting skills, with the ability to interpret regulations and communicate requirements clearly.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and guide staff, volunteers, and partners on compliance topics.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
    • Experience working with or supporting people with disabilities or para sport communities is highly beneficial.
    • Bachelor’s degree in law, compliance, business, public administration, or a related field; relevant certifications in compliance or risk management are a plus.
    • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to equity, inclusion, and non-discriminatory practices.
