Position Summary:

We are seeking caring and compassionate veterans to join our team as Hospice Volunteers, specifically to provide companionship to our patients who served in the armed forces. As a Veteran Companion Volunteer, you will offer emotional support, a listening ear, and a comforting presence to our patients during their final days.

Furthermore, Care360 Hospice is a proud partner of the We Honor Veterans program. This collaboration allows us to provide our veteran patients with the specific compassion and acknowledgement they so rightly deserve. As a veteran companion, you may also have the privilege of participating in veteran pinning ceremonies, a special way to honor their service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Visit hospice patients regularly, providing companionship and emotional support.
• Engage in conversations, listen to patients' stories, and offer a comforting presence.
• Participate in activities that the patient enjoys, such as reading, playing music, or simply sitting quietly together.
• Assist with light tasks that contribute to the patient's comfort, under the supervision of hospice staff.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy and dignity of each patient.
• Communicate regularly with hospice staff to report on patient interactions and any notable observations.

Qualifications:

• Compassionate, empathetic, and patient demeanor.
• Excellent listening and communication skills.
• Ability to provide non-judgmental, supportive companionship.
• Reliability and commitment to regular volunteer visits.
• Previous experience in a caregiving or volunteer role is a plus, but not required.
• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Completion of a background check and volunteer training program provided by Care360 Hospice, the expenses of which are covered by our agency.
