Museum Docent

Key Responsibilities

• Provide warm greetings to visitors and offer wayfinding throughout the Museum.
• Lead tours and facilitate informal discussions with school groups, families, and adult visitors.
• Interpret exhibitions and artifacts in an engaging, accurate, and age-appropriate manner.
• Assist with educational programs, special events, and hands-on activities as needed.
• Share the Museum’s mission and encourage repeat visits, memberships, and community engagement.
• Help monitor gallery spaces to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
• Attend scheduled training sessions and periodic volunteer meetings to stay up-to-date on exhibitions and interpretive techniques.

Qualifications

• Enthusiastic about public engagement and the Museum’s mission of education, preservation, and service.
• Enjoys interacting with diverse audiences; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Dependable and punctual; able to commit to a regular volunteer schedule.
• Comfortable speaking in front of groups of varying sizes and ages.
• Willingness to learn exhibition content and basic interpretive skills.
• Prior experience in education, museums, hospitality, or public speaking helpful but not required.
