    Description

Fuel the Intelligence Engine for Democracy and Accountability.

Unruled Masses is seeking a strategic, high-energy Fundraising Officer to help build the financial foundation of our 501(c)(3) startup. As we launch our Corruption Intelligence platform and Abuse Library, we need a dedicated leader to turn our mission of transparency and nonviolent resistance into a sustainable, donor-supported movement.

This is a pivotal role for a professional who believes that accurate, actionable intelligence should be a public good. You will design and execute our development strategy, connecting visionary donors, foundations, and a global community of supporters to our work.

    Who We Are

Unruled Masses is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit startup focused on exposing corruption, abuse of power, and systemic exploitation—while helping communities peacefully reclaim agency, accountability, and civic life.

We combine rigorous intelligence tradecraft with public-facing analysis, community education, and real-world civic action. Our work is published globally and shared through reports, newsletters, social media, and on live and recorded webcasts. But our mission goes beyond exposure: we aim to help people reconnect, organize, and act together—grounded in facts, not fear.

    Who You Are

You are an architect of resources and a storyteller of impact. You understand that fundraising is not just about "asking for money"—it is about inviting people to invest in a safer, more transparent future.

You likely have experience in nonprofit development, major gifts, or digital growth. You are comfortable navigating the complexities of IRS compliance for 501(c)(3)s while maintaining the agility of a startup. You believe that if people have the right tools and a robust nonviolent infrastructure, they can change the world—and you know how to mobilize the capital required to build those tools.

    What You’ll Do

As the Fundraising Officer, you will:

    • Develop a Holistic Fundraising Strategy: Create and oversee a multi-channel development plan including major gifts, digital grassroots campaigns, and foundation grants.
    • Identify and Cultivate Major Donors: Research and build relationships with high-net-worth individuals and philanthropic organizations aligned with civil liberties, anti-corruption, and human rights.
    • Lead Digital & Monthly Giving: Optimize our "Unruled Masses" digital presence to build a recurring donor base of citizens who want to support the Abuse Library.
    • Grant Research & Writing: Identify relevant grant opportunities from foundations supporting investigative journalism, democratic resilience, and social justice.
    • Event Strategy: Conceptualize and coordinate virtual or in-person "Intelligence Briefings" and donor events that showcase our latest investigations.
    • Financial Stewardship: Work with the executive team to ensure all fundraising activities are donor-centric, transparent, and fully compliant with nonprofit regulations.

    Exceptional volunteers may:

    • Serve as a "Director of Development" on the founding advisory council.
    • Be invited for paid opportunities when funding becomes available
    • Lead long-term planning.
    • Mentor junior volunteers in donor relations.
    • Architect a corporate matching-gift program for values-aligned businesses.

    Ideal Qualifications

    • Demonstrated Experience: At least 2-4 years in nonprofit fundraising, sales, or business development.
    • Strategic Thinker: Ability to build a "case for support" that resonates with diverse donor tiers.
    • Communication Skills: Exceptional writing and presentation skills; you can take complex intelligence data and turn it into a compelling narrative for a donor.
    • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with CRM software (like Salesforce, Hubspot, or Kindful) and digital giving platforms.
    • Mission-Driven: A deep, personal commitment to fighting systemic corruption and institutional capture.
    • Network: While not required, an existing network in the philanthropic or social justice space is a significant plus.

    Compensation & Commitment

This is an unpaid volunteer role. We are flexible on time commitments but ask for a minimum of 3-5 hours a week to maintain momentum on development goals. As funding allows—partially through the efforts of this role—paid positions may be offered in the future.

Benefits of Volunteering with Unruled Masses

    • Join the Founding Team: Be a key architect of the financial engine that powers our flagship program.
    • Direct Impact: See the tangible results of your work as your fundraising efforts directly enable new investigations and public alerts.
    • Professional Leadership: Build a high-level portfolio demonstrating your ability to scale a startup nonprofit.
    • Global Network: Collaborate with experienced analysts, investigative journalists, and organizers from across the world.
    • Mission Focus: Be part of a movement dedicated not just to pointing out what's broken—but to funding the solutions that rebuild agency and community.
