Events Details: Harvest of Hope Event @ YMCA in Atlanta, GA

Date: November 23rd, 7:00 am (setup) - 5:30 pm (breakdown)

    • Audience: K-12 students, families, and staff (expected attendance: 500)
    • Format: Families First Thanksgiving Community Celebration at YMCA
    • What we’re inviting you to help us with at the YMCA location:
      • Host a booth highlighting the National STEM Society's work, programs, careers, or services
      • We will provide a hands-on mini activity/demo or a quick "try-it" experience for students/families
      • Volunteers will share the National STEM Society's summer programs, internships, volunteer opportunities, or scholarships
      • The National STEM Society will provide swag or a small raffle item (optional)

This is a special opportunity in this current school year, hosted as a family-friendly event that provides needed benefits, clothes, food, and fun educational resources to families and children in need in Atlanta.

Volunteers will support the National STEM Society STEM fun and play sessions that will teach students about the educational benefits of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers and fields through tech maker, food science, or robotics racing activity play.

An annual background screening is required for all volunteers. All school boards require a separate volunteer application and background screening for on-campus event participation.

We value the volunteers, students, parents, schools, and communities we serve. All confirmed volunteers during the selection process are required to complete a child sexual abuse awareness training, reference checks (for specific volunteer roles), and background checks for onsite, in-person events and program volunteer opportunities. All volunteers over the age of 17 must contribute a $20 donation toward the $35 annual background processing fee through the National Council for Safety Initiative (NCSI) organization. The National STEM Society will cover the remaining balance.

All confirmed volunteers are required to complete a child sexual abuse awareness training.

Submitting a volunteer application or inquiry does not guarantee placement as a volunteer.

Volunteer candidates will be accepted on an event or program needs basis that matches the candidate's interest and have completed the required NCSI background screening process. Incomplete volunteer applications or background screening acceptance will not be considered for review or volunteer placement.

If there is a suitable volunteer opportunity, you will be contacted by an Activities Coordinator. All volunteer applications will be kept on file for one year in our Volunteer Database.

Benefits of volunteering with us: (We appreciate you!)

    • Participation in a fun, learn-and-play experience at all participating events.
    • A volunteer letter or certificate of hours completed, if applicable for college submission or high school volunteer hours.
    • A special invitation to the National STEM Society's volunteer appreciation annual party in Atlanta, GA, or Orlando, FL.
    • At check-in, all volunteers are provided a SPARK STEM SWAG bag or box of goodies as a thank you for their time and service to the communities we serve.

We look forward to your volunteer role and working with each of you.

    Thank you,

    SPARK STEM 365 CREW
