You can make a difference! If you are ready to put your experience, time and energy to use on behalf of older adults, consider becoming a member of the Riverside County Foundation on Aging Board of Directors.
The Foundation on Aging is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax-exempt, charitable foundation. Since 2005, the Foundation has worked to raise awareness of the needs of seniors in Riverside County, and to raise funds to help fill gaps created by decreasing public funding of services for the elderly as the older adult population continues to increase. The Foundation supports and furthers the programs of the Riverside County Office on Aging, and other new and innovative programs that sustain and enhance the quality of life of older adults and strives to ensure the county’s seniors have the opportunity to age with dignity, respect, and independence.
The Foundation provides the ideal vehicle for private citizens, businesses, and philanthropic organizations to respond to the diverse needs of older adults who are most vulnerable and at risk, and to make a significant difference in the lives of Riverside County seniors.
The Foundation currently supports:
- An annual Grocery Gift Card distribution program for seniors in need countywide and mid-year grant-funded distribution in the Coachella and Palo Verde Valleys
- Caregiver training, education, recognition programs
- Adult abuse prevention programs
- Senior volunteer recognition programs
- Pilot programs to increase caregiver availability and technology access/use
- Direct emergency assistance to groups and individuals presented to the Foundation by County departments, other public agencies and community organizations
The Foundation also supports the following County of Riverside Office on Aging Programs:
- Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
- Gap funding for home-delivered meals pending processing for participation in meal delivery programs
- Transportation subsidies
- Senior Holiday Gift Drive
- Non-medical material support
- And other senior supportive services that supplement Office on Aging efforts in isolated county areas
The Foundation seeks to increase the Board of Directors with a few individuals with knowledge and experience, as well as an interest in developing skills in public relations, fundraising, grant writing, and technology. Backgrounds in legal, financial, health care, public policy, grant writing, and community service are desirable. Consideration is also given to ensuring Board membership reflects the County's elderly population and geographic areas. The Board meets monthly, alternating between on-line and in-person meetings. Board dues are currently $125 per year.
