The Bilingual Intake Screener will support our staff by providing interpretation and translation assistance for Spanish-speaking senior citizens who are seeking services through our organization. This volunteer plays a vital role in ensuring clear communication, accurate assessments, and a welcoming experience for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Spanish–English interpretation during client intake assessments.
- Assist staff in communicating program information, eligibility requirements, and service options to Spanish-speaking seniors.
- Accurately interpret client responses to ensure assessments are completed correctly.
- Participate in person or be available by phone when staff conduct assessments.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information at all times.
- Uphold the organization’s values of respect, dignity, and patience when working with seniors.
Qualifications
- Fluency in both Spanish and English (spoken required; written a plus).
- Strong communication and listening skills.
- Comfortable working with senior citizens.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Interpretation experience is helpful but not required.
Time Commitment
- Flexible; based on staff scheduling needs and volunteer availability.
- Occasional on-call availability for phone interpretation during assessments is ideal.
