The Porter Voice Collective is seeking volunteers to support the creation and growth of an advocacy-focused podcast that centers the voices and lived experiences of porters and mountain workers in Peru, Nepal, and Tanzania.
This role sits at the intersection of storytelling, research, and media, and volunteers will collaborate closely with both our research team and media team to ensure our podcast content is ethical, accurate, and community-centered.

- Collaborate with our research team to ensure storytelling is grounded in lived experience, labor rights, and ethical tourism research
- Work alongside our media team on production planning, editing, and content workflow
- Assist with story development, narrative structure, and episode outlines
- Help identify and coordinate podcast guests (porters, guides, advocates, researchers, industry allies)
- Contribute to show notes, episode descriptions, and promotional copy
- Support outreach and distribution efforts, as needed
Who We’re Looking For
- Aspiring or experienced podcasters
- Journalists, writers, storytellers, or media students
- Researchers or students interested in labor rights, tourism, or social justice
- Advocates passionate about ethical trekking, worker rights, and decolonizing travel
- Creatives seeking meaningful, real-world impact experience
What You’ll Gain
- Hands-on experience working across research and media teams in an international nonprofit
- Published work and portfolio credit
- Mentorship in ethical storytelling and advocacy media
- The opportunity to contribute to meaningful, community-led change in the global trekking industry
Why This Role Matters
This podcast is not just a media project — it is part of our broader advocacy work to amplify porter voices, challenge inequities in the trekking industry, and contribute to ethical, community-led tourism practices.
