Reports To: Director of Finance / CFO
Position Overview
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, including transaction tracking, reporting, budgeting support, and financial data integrity.
This role ensures financial systems are structured, accurate, and aligned with organizational needs while supporting leadership with visibility into financial performance.
Operating at the intersection of finance operations, reporting, and oversight, this role is critical to maintaining financial stability, transparency, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Operations Oversight
- Oversee day-to-day financial activities, including:
- Transaction tracking
- Expense management
- Financial record maintenance
- Ensure all financial activities are properly documented
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review:
- Financial summaries
- Budget vs. actual reports
- Internal financial updates
- Ensure reporting is accurate, timely, and actionable
- Budgeting Support
- Support development and management of:
- Departmental budgets
- Program budgets
- Monitor budget performance and variances
- Data Accuracy & Financial Integrity
- Ensure accuracy and consistency across financial records
- Implement validation and reconciliation processes
- Identify and resolve discrepancies
- Donor & Funding Tracking Oversight
- Oversee tracking of:
- Donations
- Funding sources
- Ensure alignment between financial records and development data
- Financial Systems & Process Management
- Maintain and improve financial tracking systems
- Standardize financial workflows and processes
- Ensure scalability of financial operations
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with:
- Development (donor and funding alignment)
- Operations (expense tracking and planning)
- Programs (budget alignment)
- Ensure financial data supports organizational decision-making
- KPI & Performance Tracking
- Support tracking of financial metrics and performance indicators
- Provide insights into financial trends and performance
- Support data-driven decision-making
- Documentation & Compliance Support
- Maintain financial documentation and records
- Support adherence to financial policies and standards
- Ensure consistency and organization
- Team Coordination (if applicable)
- Support and guide finance-related roles
- Ensure alignment across finance operations
- Reinforce accountability and accuracy
- Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies in financial operations
- Recommend and implement improvements
- Strengthen reporting and tracking systems
- Continuous Improvement
- Improve financial visibility across the organization
- Enhance reporting quality and accuracy
- Support long-term financial structure and growth
Volunteer Commitment Expectations
- Estimated Commitment: 10–15 hours per week
- Flexible schedule
- Participation in finance and leadership meetings required
- Fully remote
Minimum Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in:
- Finance
- Accounting
- Financial operations
- Strong experience with:
- Financial tracking
- Reporting
- Budgeting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Experience with:
- Google Sheets / Excel (advanced)
- Financial reporting tools
- Experience in remote teams
