Volunteer Video Editor for Disaster Relief
Detalhes
Descrição
Grounded Boots Relief is looking for a creative Video Editor & Digital Storyteller to help turn footage from disaster response, long-term recovery, training, community events, and everyday operations into content people actually want to watch.
We generate plenty of stories worth telling. We need someone who can help us tell them well.
This volunteer will work with footage captured by volunteers and team members to create content for YouTube, social media, fundraising campaigns, volunteer recruitment, presentations, our website, and other public-facing platforms. Content may range from quick social media clips to longer-form videos documenting the people, communities, and work behind Grounded Boots Relief.
We are looking for someone who understands that the same video does not belong everywhere. A 30-second vertical video, a YouTube feature, an event recap, and a donor-facing story serve different audiences and should be edited accordingly.
Responsibilities
- Edit raw footage into polished, engaging video content
- Create short-form vertical content for social media platforms
- Edit longer-form content for YouTube and other digital platform
- Produce videos supporting volunteer recruitment, fundraising, preparedness education, and public awareness
- Help turn deployment and recovery footage into compelling stories about the communities and volunteers involved
- Incorporate graphics, captions, music, interviews, photographs, and other media when appropriate
- Adapt content for different platforms, audiences, formats, and aspect ratios
- Work with Marketing, Social Media, and Public Information personnel to identify upcoming content needs
- Help organize and maintain an accessible library of raw and completed video assets
- Recommend creative concepts and new ways Grounded Boots Relief can use video
- Maintain appropriate privacy, dignity, and sensitivity when working with footage involving disaster survivors and affected communities
- Follow organizational branding and messaging standards while bringing your own creative perspective to the work
What We're Looking For
You do not need to be a Hollywood editor. We care considerably more about creativity, reliability, good judgment, and your ability to tell a story.
Experience with video editing software is strongly preferred. Experience creating content for YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or similar platforms is a major plus.
Students, emerging professionals, experienced editors, and talented self-taught creators are all encouraged to apply.
Location and Commitment
This role can be performed remotely, making it a strong opportunity for volunteers outside Western North Carolina as well as those nearby.
There is no routine requirement to attend deployments or events in person. However, local volunteers are welcome to participate in events, trainings, and field activities when appropriate and available.
We are looking for someone who can provide reasonably consistent support rather than a one-time project. Workload will fluctuate based on deployments, events, campaigns, and available footage.
Why This Role Matters
Disaster relief happens quickly, but the story of what happened and who showed up can last much longer.
Strong video helps Grounded Boots Relief show donors where their support goes, introduce potential volunteers to our work, educate communities, recognize partners, document our impact, and keep the public engaged between disasters.
Your edits may be the first introduction someone has to Grounded Boots Relief. We want that introduction to be worth watching.

Interested volunteers should submit:
- A brief introduction explaining your interest in the role and why you would like to work with Grounded Boots Relief
- A résumé or summary of relevant experience
- Links to 2–5 examples of your video editing work, if available
- A list of the video editing software or platforms you are comfortable using
- Your general availability and approximate amount of time you could contribute each month
Professional experience is not required. Student projects, personal projects, social media content, YouTube videos, nonprofit work, and other examples are welcome.
We are interested in seeing how you tell a story, not whether you have an extensive professional portfolio.
Selected applicants will be invited to a brief virtual conversation with Grounded Boots Relief leadership to discuss the organization, the role, creative interests, availability, and next steps.
