Help create economic opportunity for older adults! To address senior poverty, improve enrollment in federal benefits and other income-stretching programs, and build economic justice for older adults in Onondaga County, the AmeriCorps VISTA Community Organizer will conduct outreach, educate and engage community members, and build capacity for the newly established Benefits Enrollment Center (BEC). The BEC helps low-income older adults apply for federal benefits that reduce poverty. The BEC is a project of the Aging Services Coalition of Greater Syracuse, which aims to increase social connectedness and economic opportunity for older adults in Onondaga County. The Aging Services Coalition is convened by InterFaith Works of Central New York, a non-profit human services agency in Syracuse, NY.
