Accra Literacy is seeking dedicated volunteers (or unpaid interns) to lead our Read-A-Book, Share-Your-Take Station Program, a literacy program hosted in partnership with South East Bronx Neighborhood Center (SEBNC).
This is a once-a-month, in-person commitment at an after-school site in the Bronx, working with students ages 7–12. Sessions take place on Wednesdays (once monthly).
Program Objectives:
- Improve reading comprehension and writing skills
- Strengthen critical thinking through discussion and reflection
- Encourage students to engage with books, express their ideas and foster curiosity
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate a literacy-centered activity (reading, writing, or discussion-based)
- Engage students in reading and sharing their thoughts
- Rotate and refresh books monthly (may include picking up books from partner site)
- Maintain a structured, engaging, respectful, and nurturing environment
Ideal Candidate:
- Education, English, or related major (preferred, but open)
- College student or recent graduate (preferred, but open)
- Passion for literacy advancement and youth engagement
- Reliable and available Wednesdays (once monthly)
Support Provided:
- Accra Literacy shirt (uniform)
- Transportation reimbursement for program days
