Community Donations Coordinator
Detalhes
Descrição
At The Brisben Center, we are incredibly blessed by the generosity of our community. Every week, we receive boxes and bags of clothing, hygiene items, bedding, and food to help support our residents as they transition from homelessness to home. However, managing this constant influx takes a dedicated, highly organized set of hands!
We are seeking a reliable "behind-the-scenes" volunteer to act as our primary Donation Intake & Inventory Specialist. You will be the gatekeeper for our incoming donations, ensuring our shelter only accepts high-quality, usable items, while keeping our storage rooms beautifully organized. By managing this flow, you take a massive logistical burden off our frontline staff!
Key Responsibilities
- Intake & Triage: Sort through all newly dropped-off donations. You will use our shelter guidelines to determine what we can keep (e.g., in-season clothing, unexpired food, clean linens) and what needs to be responsibly trashed or bagged up for re-donation to community partners.
- Strategic Placement: Once items are approved, distribute them to their proper homes around the shelter! This might mean taking food to the kitchen pantry, bringing clothes to the Clothing Closet, or stocking toothpaste in the hygiene bins.
- Inventory Maintenance: On days when there are no new donations at the door, you will act as our inventory guardian. You will check our current storage and inventory rooms, pulling any outdated, damaged, or out-of-season products, and ensuring the shelves remain neat, categorized, and accessible for staff.
- High-Level Reporting: Keep the Volunteer Coordinator in the loop! At the end of your shift, provide a quick, general overview of what came in (e.g., "We received 3 bags of men's coats, a large box of canned goods, and a lot of baby toys"). This simple step is vital for tracking our monthly data and knowing what we still need to ask the community for!
What We Are Looking For
- Detail-Oriented & Decisive: You are comfortable making independent judgment calls on what items meet our shelter's quality standards. You don't mind enforcing the rules regarding what we can and cannot keep.
- Highly Organized: You love bringing order to chaos. Categorizing items and straightening up storage shelves sounds like a great afternoon to you!
- Independent & Self-Motivated: While you will work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to understand our current needs, this is a highly self-directed role. You are comfortable jumping right in and working independently.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to comfortably lift, move, and unpack standard boxes and heavy trash bags of donated items.
