Hospice of the Valley serves patients in Santa Clara County that live in their home or a nursing facility. The goal of hospice care is to provide comfort care to patients at the end of their life. Volunteers (must be at least 18) to visit those patients at the end of their life. Some patients may not have friends or family to visit them during this journey. Volunteering in Hospice is a very rewarding experience. Bringing smiles to patients is sure to bring smiles to you and a satisfaction that you truly are making a difference.
To become a hospice volunteer at Hospice of the Valley the greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to listen. Volunteering can be as simple as sitting by the bedside, reading a book or running a quick errand for our patients and their family member. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required.
Being a hospice volunteer is a great opportunity to practice compassion and discover your skills and learn new ones during the end-of-life care. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.
While volunteer cannot provide clinical or personal care, s/he can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families.
