About the Role:
The Happy Pet Project is seeking compassionate and organized volunteers to serve as Foster Coordinator - mentor and support partners for individuals and families who open their homes to foster dogs in need. Our fosters range from first-timers to experienced dog owners, and your guidance helps ensure each dog — and each foster family — has the best possible experience.
What We’re Looking For:
Knowledge of dog behavior, development, or training is a huge plus.
Previous fostering or rescue experience helpful but not required — training will be provided.
Excellent communication and listening skills.
Compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to stay organized and respond promptly to foster needs.
What You’ll Do:
Build relationships with foster families and provide daily support as needed.
Check in regularly to assess needs, answer questions, and share resources.
Use open-ended questions to help fosters feel supported and confident in their role.
Offer education and advice on topics like dog behavior, socialization, and basic training. (resources are available internally)
Help coordinate supplies, transport needs, and temporary foster placements when required.
Work closely with our intake, medical, and adoption teams to ensure smooth communication and consistent care for each dog.
Time Commitment:
Daily check-ins are expected, with the time required varying based on the number and needs of your assigned fosters (typically 1–2 hours per day). All communication is handled within Microsoft teams. Access on a regualr basis is required.
Why Volunteer with Us:
At The Happy Pet Project, we believe that saving lives starts with supporting people. As a Foster Coordinator, you’ll make a meaningful impact by helping foster families — and the dogs they care for — thrive every day.
