Group or Class Projects For Students

The World Health Organization and Center for Disease Control estimate that each year, three million children succumb to diarrhea and harmful germs found on interior surfaces, such as unpainted walls, in unsanitary conditions. Additionally, mosquito-borne viruses claim the lives of over six million individuals annually. However, a simple solution has emerged: a single coat of latex paint on walls can reduce these fatalities by 75% in developing nations.

Despite this, approximately 150 million gallons of paint go to waste in countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and New Zealand. Meanwhile, over 2.5 billion people in developing nations struggle to afford even a gallon of paint on their meager daily incomes. Consequently, unused paint-some of it brand new or nearly full-ends up discarded when homes are painted or industrial plants close down. This surplus could instead be a lifeline for communities in need, a resource to be donated rather than discarded. In response, we've rallied more than 200 companies across multiple states in the U.S. and five countries to contribute their surplus paint to our cause.

Despite our strides, the scarcity of paint persists in many developing regions. In these areas, people resort to antiquated methods, such as using stones, soil, or even fruits and vegetables like beets or carrots, to create paint. This practice, reminiscent of ancient times, persists due to the absence of modern paint-making technology. However, it's unjustifiable that those living on just $2 a day should sacrifice their limited resources for home improvement. Global Paint for Charity endeavors to change this by providing quality paint to underprivileged families, thereby reducing deforestation and eliminating the need for outdated paint-making practices.

Why does this matter to us?

Our mission at Global Paint for Charity is to reclaim surplus paint from businesses and households, recycle it, and distribute it to vulnerable communities in developing nations worldwide. Many essential facilities-family homes, schools, churches, hospitals, and orphanages-in these regions are not only dilapidated but also fail to meet basic safety and hygiene standards.

In most developing countries, 80% of schools have never been painted, leaving 70 million children without the experience of a painted classroom. The inadequate infrastructure in these schools is unacceptable, especially when compared to the facilities often taken for granted in more affluent nations. To address this disparity, we launched the "Basic Schools Beautification Programs in Africa," aiming to paint approximately 8000 schools across 12 countries by 2025. Our goal is for every underserved child and adult to someday learn and thrive in a comfortable, painted classroom. Additionally, in Central America, our volunteer efforts have not only saved lives but also empowered single mothers and young girls to start their own painting businesses, thereby breaking the cycle of poverty.

A freshly painted house or school may not solve all problems, but it brings hope, comfort, and a renewed spirit to those in need. It fosters community cohesion, turning homes and schools into vibrant hubs where people gather, connect, and find inspiration.

    Project Focus:

Numerous local university groups in the U.S. have collaborated with Global Paint for Charity on diverse projects, providing students with hands-on experience across various fields, including non-profit management, marketing, finance, and urban planning. Through these projects, students develop leadership skills, gain practical experience, and contribute meaningfully to our mission.

    Expected Group Activities:

We anticipate that student groups will engage in a range of activities, including developing marketing materials, crafting strategic plans, managing supply chains, conducting surveys, and creating urban community beautification projects. These projects not only offer students valuable experience but also empower them to become leaders in their communities.

    Deliverables:

Upon completion, student groups will present their final work to our executives and board of directors. Some funding may be available to support their project-related expenses.
