About the Space Frontier Foundation
The Space Frontier Foundation is one of the oldest and most respected nonprofit advocacy organizations in the commercial space industry. Our mission is to open the space frontier to human settlement by unleashing the power of free enterprise. We do this through education, advocacy, and community — powered almost entirely by passionate volunteers like you.
About the role
As our Volunteer Coordinator, you'll be the connective tissue of the SFF community — finding talented, mission-driven people, bringing them into the fold, and making sure they feel valued and engaged. This is a high-impact, flexible role for someone who believes the future of humanity is in space and wants to help build the team that makes it happen.
Recruiting great volunteers in a competitive nonprofit landscape is the biggest challenge here — so we're looking for someone who's proactive, creative, and genuinely energized by the prospect of growing a community around a cause this exciting.
What you'll do
- Actively recruit volunteers through Idealist, social media, and community outreach
- Onboard new volunteers and connect them to the right opportunities based on their skills
- Maintain and manage our volunteer database, keeping records accurate and up to date
- Coordinate ongoing communication with the volunteer community via Slack and email (Hubspot)
- Track volunteer engagement and contributions using Monday.com
- Run recognition and appreciation initiatives to celebrate volunteers and keep morale high
- Work with SFF staff and leads to identify needs for writers, content creators, social media support, and admin volunteers
What we're looking for
- Genuine passion for commercial space exploration and the mission of opening the space frontier
- Strong communicator who can inspire and engage people around a shared mission
- Organized and detail-oriented — comfortable managing a database and juggling multiple tasks
- Comfortable with Slack, Hubspot, and Monday.com (or willing to learn quickly)
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- Prior experience in volunteer management, community organizing, or HR is a plus — but not required
What you'll get
- A front-row seat to the commercial space industry through SFF's network and events
- Meaningful leadership experience in a respected space advocacy nonprofit
- Flexible hours that fit around your schedule
- A passionate, like-minded community that shares your excitement about humanity's future in space
Time commitment
This role requires approximately a few hours per week. The schedule is flexible and can be adapted to your availability. Work is primarily remote.
