Volunteer Opportunity: Friendly Visitor for Chess & Social Activities

Location: Beaverton Elder Place

Preferred Schedule: Afternoon or Evening visits, at least 3x a month

Volunteer Preference: Male volunteer preferred

About the Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and engaging volunteer to visit an elderly participant who loves playing chess and enjoys social activities. The ideal volunteer would:

• Play chess (preferred) and other games
• Read aloud, paint, or share creative activities
• Bring a friendly presence and good humor

Goals:

• Improve mood and provide meaningful social interaction
• Increase access to favorite activities like chess and games

Participant Highlights:

• Loves jokes and has a great sense of humor
• Enjoys old songs, jingles, and TV commercials—these often spark wonderful memories
• May burst into song spontaneously
• Would appreciate someone older who can match his personality and go along with his moods

Ideal Volunteer Qualities:

• Friendly and patient
• Knows how to play chess
• Has a sense of humor and enjoys lighthearted conversation
