Volunteer Opportunity: Spiritual Care / Faith‑Based Companion (In‑Person)

We are seeking a compassionate and emotionally aware volunteer to provide faith‑based companionship to an older adult living in Des Moines. This role is especially well‑suited for someone comfortably offering calm presence, spiritual connection, and respectful conversation.

About the Participant

• • Has a history of PTSD and depression and can feel overwhelmed at times
  • Communicates clearly and directly, with empathy; may need extra time to express thoughts
  • Enjoys:
  • Christian spirituality and faith‑based conversation
  • Coloring and word searches
  • Listening to NPR radio
  • Watching television

Volunteer Role

• • Provide in‑person spiritual companionship
  • Engage in conversation centered on faith, reflection, and emotional support
  • Share calm activities such as coloring or word puzzles
  • Offer a patient, grounding presence that supports emotional well‑being
  • Visits can be scheduled and added to the participant’s GrandPad calendar
