Newtowne is a cooperative venture of parents, teachers, and children. Our teachers are our only paid staff. Parents serve on the board of directors, set policy, manage enrollment, repair playground equipment --whatever needs to be done.
Every day in each classroom, there is a designated parent-helper. The responsibility of the parent helper is to provide the morning snack, to assist the teachers in the classroom, and to be responsible for clean up after class. Parent-helping allows parents to be actively involved in what goes on in the classroom and to gain insight into their child's world. Parents' work pays off in another way: it lowers tuition costs. Newtowne School is licensed by the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services (OCCS).
