    Who We Are

The Shelter Monitoring Committee is an independent vehicle charged with documenting the conditions of shelters and resource centers to improve the health, safety, treatment of residents, clients, staff and the homeless community. The Committee is comprised of 13 members who serve on a volunteer basis. 7 of the Committee’s members are homeless or formerly homeless individuals, while the remaining 6 members are a mix of representatives from City agencies and other individuals with experience providing services to the homeless.

    What We Do

The Committee monitors the conditions of shelters and resource centers and their compliance with the operating standards by conducting shelter site visits, surveying shelter clients and by investigating client complaints. These findings are then presented to the Mayor's Office, the Board of Supervisor's, the Local Homeless Coordinating Board, members of the public and other appropriate agencies.
