Description

The Georgia Conservation Voters family of organizations includes the Georgia Conservation Voters, Inc., the Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund, and the Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund. The Georgia Conservation Voters' (GCV) mission is to advocate for public policies that advance a more just and sustainable future, campaign for candidates prioritizing climate and environmental justice, and hold elected officials accountable for their actions and votes. The Georgia Conservation Voters Education Fund (GCVEF) mobilizes Georgians to advance climate and environmental justice through education, advocacy, and other forms of civic engagement. The Georgia Conservation Voters Action Fund (GCVAF) campaigns for climate champions. These complimentary organizations hold Georgia legislators and policymakers accountable for their actions on climate and environmental justice.

GCV seeks a policy manager to join our team and help us advance key environmental policy priorities in Georgia. This position will drive research, analysis, and policy development that will promote climate solutions and mobilize our base to take action. The Policy Manager will work with the State Political Director to lead the development and execution of a long-term state climate policy agenda. We are looking for an experienced campaign advocate, political staffer, or policy associate who is goal-driven, passionate about social change and environmental justice and has experience advocating for public policies. 



Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and monitor federal, state, and local public policies related to energy, climate change, and environmental justice.
  • Conducted research, analysis, and support around federal climate implementation dollars and provided ongoing analysis and reports to staff and partners. 
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships & Coalitions Manager to develop and share policy and advocacy recommendations with network partners and present findings in coalition spaces. 
  • Develop policy materials for lawmakers, the public, and the media to help advance our campaigns and lead the development and execution of a long-term state climate policy agenda. 
  • Work with the Government Affairs Manager to support legislative engagement and policy advocacy efforts (i.e., meetings with policymakers, ally meetings) through the development of materials, coordination with network partners, and outreach
  • Drive the creation and refinement of strategic policy positions, prioritize policy interests that advance our program goals and objectives, and work with the communication team to develop messaging.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Work Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate has five years or more of experience in policy agenda development, conducting policy analysis, and research.
  • Skills and comfort working with regulators, government, and policy leaders
  • Experience in developing research and analysis to inform policy and campaign priorities. 
  • Record of successful federal or state policy advocacy, especially in environmental, infrastructure, and/or transportation policy. 
  • Experience in transportation, energy, climate, and/or environmental justice policy and a proven ability to become conversant with these policy details.
  • Experience navigating Georgia's legislative and regulatory environment with demonstrated success in achieving policy outcomes is a plus.


  • Skills: 
  • Ability to take complicated policy information and make it clear, digestible, and actionable for staff and coalition partners 
  • Excellent organizational & communication skills with a solid commitment to follow-up.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and analytical skills
  • Ability to leverage diverse partnerships to maximize the impact and reach of our policy advocacy efforts
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, prioritizing and managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment. 
  • Creative problem-solver who is resourceful during challenging or new situations.
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to amplify the voice and leadership of Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, and other marginalized communities in Georgia.

  • Ability to work with communities and professionals different from you in culture, ethnicity, political viewpoints, age, economic situation, or other differences.
  • Demonstrated awareness of one’s cultural identity, views about differences, and the ability to learn and build on varying cultural and community norms. An understanding of racial justice and the urgency of confronting institutional racism and inequity. Commitment to equity and inclusion as organizational practice and culture. 


  • Conditions:
  • This position is based in Atlanta, Georgia. We may consider other locations.
  • This job operates in a dynamic environment and will require frequent travel, including trips to the State Legislature and throughout Georgia.
  • Ability to work hours exceeding stated office hours as needed; ability and willingness to travel for staff retreats, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
