About the U. S. Dream Academy

The U.S. Dream Academy, with a 25-year history, focuses on mentoring and empowering

youth facing adverse childhood experiences, particularly children of

incarcerated parents. Through mentoring and partnerships with schools,

churches, and organizations like Prison Fellowship Ministries, they aim to

improve academic skills and character development and encourage dreaming big.

Operating in seven cities across the U.S., including Philadelphia, Baltimore,

Houston, Orlando, Salt Lake City, San Bernardino, and Washington, D.C., they

have recently expanded their efforts to Chicago and Atlanta to support more

children in under-invested communities with high crime and poverty rates.

 

Basic Function

As a Development Coordinator, you'll play a crucial role in our organization,

working under the Chief Development Officer and Executive Vice President to

enhance donor relations and ensure the success of our development initiatives.

Your main tasks will involve orchestrating resources and efforts to support our

goals for annual funds, capital, and endowments. You will create compelling

narratives to attract donor support, collaborate with our team to advance

development strategies, and research and identify key supporters. Your

leadership will be key in managing development projects and campaigns, planning

and executing fundraising events, and maintaining effective communication with

leadership and stakeholders to achieve our fundraising objectives.

Principle Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Development Officer (CDO) in crafting compelling communication
  • materials to support various fundraising campaigns, including the annual fund.
  • Coordinate the efforts of staff, volunteers, and development committee members to enhance
  • development activities.
  • Conducted research, managed databases, and developed prospect lists for fundraising
  • initiatives.
  • Work closely with the CDO to build and maintain effective fundraising strategies and
  • plans to meet strategic objectives and funding needs across multiple channels
  • (mail, email, major donors, online giving, etc.).
  • Support the execution of development strategies, ensuring follow-up, responsibility
  • assignments, and accountability.
  • Manage major donor/prospect lists, coordinate cultivation strategies, and schedule
  • engagements with new and existing supporters.
  • Track donor progression from initial engagement to long-term support, overseeing
  • goals for various giving levels.
  • Provide administrative support for the Development Committee, managing logistics and
  • ensuring effective communication and reporting.

Job Requirements

  • Passionate about Dream Academy's mission.
  • Proven success in nonprofit fundraising or relevant skills from sales, promotions, or marketing.
  • Experience with donor or customer databases.
  • Strong relationship building skills and enjoyment in meeting new people.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, project management skills, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Ability to interact confidently across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent oral communication, public speaking, and active listening skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Donor Management Software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Fundraising, Communications).
  • 2 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or related roles preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in event planning or coordination.
