Opportunity Summary

Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AJSOCAL) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing social justice and providing programs and services for underserved Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in Southern California, and nation-wide.

Working directly with the Director of Institutional Giving as the Consultant’s primary point of contact, the Senior Grant Writer Consultant/Institutional Giving Consultant will also work with a team-oriented, results-driven Development Department that raises approximately $15 million annually. This role will interface with a Development team of seven (7), as well work with Program, Finance, and Executive Leadership staff to play a key role in the following activities:

·      Ensuring that the Development department’s goals and objectives are achieved by focusing on writing foundation, government, and corporate giving grant requests.

·      Tracking and ensuring the timely adherence to proposals and reporting guidelines, deadlines, and responsibilities.

·     Cultivating, stewarding, and enhancing donor relationships that support AJSOCAL programs and services.

·      Prospective donor research, identification, and outreach.  

The optimal person will have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in nonprofit Development/fundraising, grant writing, grants management, and/or institutional donor cultivation. A minimum of two (2) years of grant writing experience is a requirement for this role. They will be adept at: using both data and stories to write compelling funding requests, working across departments to gather information, and managing many funder deadlines simultaneously. Experience in AAPI/immigrant social service and/or legal assistance is not a necessity, but an interest in learning about and then becoming a champion for AJSOCAL’s mission are a must. Knowledge of fundraising software such as Salesforce is a plus.

Scope of Work 

Grant Development

·       Identify, secure, and renew foundation, government and corporate grant funding.

·       Review, recommend, and implement application strategies for all government and private RFP solicitations.

·       Build and maintain expert knowledge of programs and funding landscape.

·       Lead writing, preparation and submission of letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and concept papers. This includes drafting persuasive and engaging program/case statements, providing program management support with a cross functional team of grant contributors, and proposal submission.

·       Lead coordination with Program, Finance, and other staff on developing accurate grant budgets for submission.

·       Maintain accurate and complete grant records in fundraising software and other databases.

Grant Management

·       Help provide regular updates of grant and contract activity, deadlines, and outcomes.

·       Lead drafting of grant interim and final reports; coordinate with appropriate staff to ensure the timely submission of grant reports.

·       Provide general troubleshooting and grant management support to Program team.

Development Support

·       Generation of Development assets outside of grants work. E.g., program overviews, sponsorship decks, and the annual report.

·       Work with Development staff on organizational fundraising events, online giving, communications, and other Development-related activities.

Location

Remote. There is an option to work in our Los Angeles office if preferred.

Effective Date

To be filled as soon as possible. This is a 6-month consultancy with the possibility of renewal.

Compensation will be determined based on experience: Up to $42.60/hourly. The Consultant will be paid for hours worked, with the expectation of approximately 36-40 hours/week. This role is not eligible for benefits.
