Descripción

Background

Catholics for Choice (CFC) was founded in 1973 to shape and advance sexual and reproductive ethics based on justice, reflect a commitment to a person’s well-being, and affirm the capacity of all people to make moral decisions about their lives.

General Summary

CFC seeks a passionate and driven advocate for reproductive freedom to serve as the Florida Organizing and Movement Building Associate. Responsible for executing the organization’s engagement plan to successfully pass the “Amendment to Limit Government Interference with Abortion” ballot initiative, the ideal candidate will possess knowledge of community organizing efforts on the ground in the state of Florida as well as a desire to encounter pro-choice Catholics and develop their leadership while working closely with faith-based and secular coalition partners. The Florida Organizing & Movement Building Associate must feel comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, centering faith, Catholic social teaching, and most impacted by abortion restrictions in all that they do.

Catholics for Choice is looking for individuals who are passionate about our mission. Please familiarize yourself with our messaging and programs before applying. If you do not fully support the pro-choice movement, this role is not suitable for you. We welcome applicants from different religions and secular backgrounds to apply, as we are all affected by the Catholic hierarchy's religious overreach.

 This is a temporary full-time position starting from the date of hire and ending on November 29, 2024. The job is based in Florida and the candidate must be located within the state. The applicant should have their own means of transportation and be willing to travel around Florida as required. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to work on nights and weekends if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Encounter Florida voters through tabling, phone banking, door-knocking, distributing CFC materials, and other street outreach efforts to increase support for the ballot initiative.
  • Recruit pro-choice Catholics to participate in ballot initiative campaign activities via targeted outreach.
  • Staff campaign events include extensive outreach efforts, GOTV events, and persuasion conversations.
  • Identify and serve as a resource to support and develop CFC advocate leaders through one-on-one meetings, preparation for public-facing efforts, and targeted communications designed to deepen engagement.
  • Collaborate with community organizational partners including Floridians Protecting Freedom.
  • Collect and track advocate information, engagement metrics, stories, and data on recruitment and advocate network growth consistent with CFC CRM practices.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the execution of CFC’s Florida advocate engagement plan.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of community organizing and/or campaign experience, preferably within the reproductive health, rights, and justice and/or Catholic social justice movements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and reproductive health, rights, and justice and understanding of the impact of multiple systems of oppression on one’s ability to access sexual and reproductive healthcare.
  • Respectful, personable, and interested in building relationships with diverse groups of people.
  • Prior experience with or interest in learning more about data collection and tracking.
  • Background, coursework, or experience in faith-based advocacy work, theology, and/or Catholic social teaching is a plus.
  • Good writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks, organize time efficiently, and work independently while consulting with and reporting back to the Director of Organizing and Movement Building.
  • Proficient knowledge of multiple computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Compensation

The salary offered for this position is $65,000 (or $1,250 per week). At CFC, we have a modified lockstep base compensation system to ensure equal pay for all employees. As a result, we do not negotiate salaries, as all associates in the organization receive the same base salary.

CFC’s generous employee benefits include:

  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; life and long-term disability;
  • 403(b) Plan with employer contribution after one year;
  • Paid family and medical leave of up to 12 weeks (after 1,250 hours of service);
  • Paid parental leave up to 16 weeks (after 1,250 hours of service);
  • Open leave policy, in addition to paid holidays and office closures;
  • 13 paid holidays per calendar year; paid time off during end-of-year office closures and half-day schedule on Fridays.

Location & Hours

This position operates on a hybrid model, working at home and in-person events. This is a Florida-based position, and the candidate should be able to travel throughout the state in a vehicle with mileage reimbursement for campaign outreach and events.
