TITLE: Membership Manager 

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Programs

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION: The primary responsibilities of the Membership Manager are sustaining and growing the membership of Nonprofit New York, which includes nonprofit organizations, philanthropic and corporate foundations, and businesses serving the sector.  The Membership Manager will help drive the implementation and growth of existing member benefit programs while also strategically thinking about new innovative offerings that will strengthen overall retention through benefits.  Core tasks will include engaging existing members to secure continued support; identifying and recruiting prospective members; enrolling members in unique services that further drive revenue; representing Nonprofit New York at various public-facing events;  and managing a robust CRM to ensure accurate data and reporting that help to inform overall strategy.  The Membership Manager will also work closely with our Programs team to coordinate and execute key member events, such as our Annual Meeting of Members, member socials, and borough meetups.  Nonprofit New York aligns our practices with our values and expects the Membership Manager to use a lens of racial equity when developing, implementing, and evaluating member initiatives. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Develop and implement a membership growth strategy, identifying prospects and prospecting opportunities through events, research, and inquiries to reach potential members in NYC’s five boroughs and Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties
  • Communicate Nonprofit New York’s value, membership benefits, programs, and services to prospective members 
  • Represent organization at key industry events through public speaking, exhibiting, networking, and direct sales activities 
  • Strengthen and implement engagement and retention strategy, including effectively communicating the value of membership with Nonprofit New York and increasing member participation in various benefits
  • Contribute to creation and distribution of membership materials and other external communications designed to market Nonprofit New York’s programs and services, recruit and onboard new members, and generate support for the organization
  • Streamline, implement, and monitor system for processing membership applications, renewals, and expirations
  • Manage and maintain effective data collection, analysis, and reporting systems
  • Plan and execute events designed to facilitate networking and member engagement
  • With the entire team, promote a culture of race equity and development or implementation of initiatives through a race equity lens

Also, additional duties as agreed to with the Vice President, Programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal Skills & Experience

  • At least three years of progressive experience in membership, individual giving, and/or business development
  • Familiarity with membership organizations and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders internally and externally 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service and/or steward organizational relationships 
  • Familiarity with sales and marketing objectives, along with a demonstrated ability to set and meet targets
  • Supervisory experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills, along with a demonstrated ability to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
  • Proficiency in office and web-based applications including G-Suite, Asana, Slack, and Zoom
  • Familiarity with Salesforce and/or other CRM systems

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily a sedentary role.  However, the person in this position may need to occasionally move about inside the office to liaise with internal staff and access files and office machinery.  We anticipate that this position will be expected to work in the office at least two days a week and remotely the remainder of the time.
