About Us:

DABC is a 501(c)(3) national nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating the amplified inequities for Black children experiencing unaddressed Dyslexia and related learning dis/abilities. Since our founding in 2020, we have become a thought leader and catalyst for change, reaching hundreds of families and professionals through impactful workshops, family literacy programs, and partnerships with educators.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and creative Summer Intern to join our team for an 8-week period. The intern will support various aspects of our communications and outreach efforts, including social media, targeted communications, and marketing material creation. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit communications and marketing. The internship requires 25 hours per week. Anticipated dates: Monday, June 17, 2024 through Friday, August 9th

Key Responsibilities:

  • Social Media Management:
  • Develop and create social media templates for ongoing use.
  • Assist in the production and scheduling of social media content.
  • Communication with Families/Attendees:
  • Draft and send targeted emails to families and event attendees.
  • Maintain and update email lists.
  • Creation of Marketing Materials:
  • Design flyers, infographics, and other marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure materials align with DABC’s branding and messaging.
  • Updating Google Slides:
  • Assist in the creation and updating of Google Slides presentations for various programs and events.
  • Conference Support:
  • Provide administrative support for conference planning and execution throughout the summer.
  • Assist with logistical tasks and attendee communication.
  • Video Editing:
  • Edit videos for social media, workshops, and other communication purposes.
  • Newsletter Template Creation:
  • Create a template for a DABC Parent newsletter.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Previous experience in social media management, communications, marketing, or a related field (through previous internships or jobs).
  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Experience with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
  • Creative, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.

Compensation:

  • Gain practical experience in nonprofit communications and marketing.
  • Opportunity to work with a passionate team dedicated to making a difference in the lives of Black children with dyslexia.
  • Flexible work schedule with the ability to work remotely.
  • Wage: $4,000 for the 8-week internship at 25 hours per week.
  • $2,000 paid after the first 4 weeks.
  • $2,000 paid upon completion of the internship.
  • This internship is not entitled to benefits.
