SCOPE OF POSITION

Organization Overview: Brandywine Valley Active Aging enriches the lives of aging adults living in our community by providing services that enhance the dignity and quality of their lives.  It is the expectation of Brandywine Valley Active Aging that all staff will mirror the mission of Brandywine Valley Active Aging in the performance of their work.

Brandywine Valley Active Aging builds on a history of more than 40-years of continued service by the former Coatesville Area and Downingtown Area Senior Centers.  While services are open to anyone who seeks to improve the quality of their life, regardless of their age, Brandywine Valley Active Aging’s programs and services are designed to offer the most value to individuals 50 and greater.

General Job Description:  The Health & Wellness Manager will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to administer the policies and programs of Brandywine Valley Active Aging’s BVAA FIT Program and to administer the policies and programs of Older Americans Act Title III D Evidence-Based and Health & Wellness Programs defined by Aging Program Directive 19-04-01. The Health & Wellness Manager works cooperatively with the Director of Operations to scale and grow profitability of Brandywine Valley Active Aging’s health and wellness programs. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Service

  1. Develop, implement, and lead wellness programs that support the short- and long-term strategic goals of the organization.
  2. Develop curriculum for, and lead, group exercise and community wellness classes appropriate for active older adults.
  3. Determine the appropriateness of individuals participating in fitness programs and maintain complete and accurate files in the event of an emergency.
  4. Maintain all program areas and equipment to ensure a clean and safe environment.

Supervisory Duties

  1. Direct oversight and responsibility of the health and wellness contract providing evidence-based wellness programming throughout Chester County, issued by the Chester County Department of Aging Services.
  2. Collect, analyze, and share data (including program evaluation).
  3. Build and supervise the work of a supply of contract instructors and/or skilled volunteers who can offer a variety of group exercise classes such as Line Dancing, Tai Chi, Yoga, and Zumba.
  4. Build and supervise the work of a supply of private pay wellness professionals such as Audiology, Massage Therapy, Physical Thearpy, and Podiatry.
  5. Create outlines, schedules, and course descriptions for use in marketing materials such as the monthly newsletter, social media, and the organization's website.

Collaboration

  1. Establish and regularly convene a health and wellness advisory council.
  2. Work closely with activity staff and other internal and external stakeholders to generate new ideas and initiatives to advance health and wellness programming on each Campus and throughout Chester County.
  3. When requested and appropriate, temporarily assume the duties of absent staff to ensure minimal service disruption.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Be at least 21-years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; however, a combination of education and equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in health and wellness program development, and budget management.
  • Desire to work with older adults and the ability to put service of others before self.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize work and to appropriately delegate to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, tact, and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with computers and computer software including Microsoft Office.
  • High level of accuracy, efficiency, and punctuality.
  • Personal transportation and the ability to travel daily, if needed, throughout the County and occasionally for local, regional, or national conferences or training.
