Position Summary

The Senior Accountant maintains Impact Charitable’s general ledger and vendor records. They partner with the Economic Mobility and Integrated Capital program teams for program and investment accounting, and the Human Resources Director for payroll and compliance. This role reports to Impact Charitable’s Controller.

Essential Duties

  • General Accounting
  • Perform the day-to-day accounting functions including full cycle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and routine journal entries.
  • Review, record, and manage credit card reconciliations and expense reimbursements.
  • Monitor bank accounts and coordinate with Integrated Capital program on funder deposits.
  • Support the month end close functions including bank reconciliations, revenue recognition, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Track and maintain prepaid expenses.
  • Manage employee payroll processing and journal entries.
  • Maintain the organization’s vendor records and compliance including setting up new vendors, ensuring appropriate documentation and supporting in generating 1099s.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Policy and Process Development
  • Support the Controller in evaluating and developing updated processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the Controller in developing and updating policy and procedure documents.
  • Support in developing standardized tools and templates, as needed.


  • Audit & Tax Compliance
  • Forms 1096 and 1099s, and W3s and W2s
  • Support the Controller in any preparation for annual financial audit, single audit and 990 filings
  • Support with any funder audits or monitoring visits


  • Program Accounting and Grant Management
  • Track revenue and expenses by project/fund, and serve as the main liaison with program staff to ensure transactions are booked accurately.
  • Review and evaluate new revenue contracts for revenue recognition compliance.
  • Partner with program staff to ensure program budgets are entered correctly and well-managed 
  • Partner with program staff to ensure accuracy of financial reporting, including budget vs. actual reporting
  • Partner with program staff to support grant and contract invoicing and collections
  • Support with the calculation and tracking of staff and contractor allocations across projects
  • Ensure applicable internal financial policy compliance among staff
  • Support grant management and financial reporting of donor and public awards
  • Work with program teams to ensure compliance with award requirements
  • Support program teams to do forecasting and budget realignments for awards


  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Assist with treasury/cash management
  • Support the Controller with monthly reporting to Executive Director and Board Treasurer
  • Support the Controller with quarterly reporting to Audit & Finance Committee and Board of Directors
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis


  • Investment Accounting (may include)
  • Account for new investments and payment activity on existing investments
  • Record interest and other gains on direct investment portfolio within CSuite
  • Process donations of publicly traded securities
  • Calculate and support month-end accounting cycles by reconciling managed investment accounts
  • Support Transaction fees and AUM fee accounting
  • Quarterly invoicing to subsidiaries

Key Competencies

Required Competencies

  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of Impact Charitable
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in a similar role with a nonprofit organization. Strong understanding of GAAP accounting, specifically for nonprofit organizations.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics required, or commensurate experience.
  • Proficient in spreadsheets (Excel and/or Google Sheets).
  • Detail and process oriented.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new information systems.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with people
  • Good skills related to prioritizing, maximization of time use and meeting deadlines


Preferred Competencies

  • Familiarity and experience with payroll processing in multiple states
  • Familiarity with fund level accounting
  • Experience with Foundant software (eg. CommunitySuite, Grant LifeCycle Manager, Scholarship LifeCycle Manager)
  • Familiarity with Federal Uniform Guidance and Single Audits
