Historic Site Educator

Description:

The King’s Chapel History Program seeks Historic Site Educators to join our enthusiastic interpretation team. Educators serve as the public face of King’s Chapel, welcoming and engaging visitors and tour groups to the historic building each year along Boston's Freedom Trail. Educators engage the public through leading guided tours and educational programs, providing historical information and presentations, and maintaining a friendly, helpful demeanor for all guests. Educators are also responsible for staffing the admissions desk, and communicating policies to visitors. Our interpretation spans over 300 years of history, with an emphasis on themes of faith, freedom, tolerance, and justice.

Responsibilities include:

  • Facilitating guided tours and programs, which may include navigating several floors within the chapel.
  • Interpreting the site’s history through tours, gallery talks, and informal interpretative conversations for our diverse, global visitorship
  • Using established program content outlines to communicate program themes and objectives, and to meet the age, grade level, and capabilities of students.
  • Welcoming and greeting visitors and school groups to our historic church
  • Fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all visitors
  • Contributing to special projects, including participating in program development and writing for the History Program blog
  • Supporting engagement with and stewardship of cultural resources
  • Handling ticketing and merchandise transactions, and encourage visitors to support the historic site through donations

In addition to engaging the public, Educators are responsible for opening and closing the building, handling End-of-Day procedures, and taking appropriate steps to ensure the safety and security of all people and objects within the church.

Leading programs involves walking and climbing several sets of stairs. Applicants must be able to stand comfortably for extended periods of time, lift 30 pounds, and work within fluctuating temperatures. Please note that King’s Chapel is not air conditioned.
