This role is a 10-month position, which is non-exempt and therefore eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

About the Food Service Aide Position


Reporting directly to the Food Service Manager, Food Service workers are members of the Food Service and Operations Team who supports the daily operations of Capital City PCS, specifically related to implementing the service of breakfast, lunch, and snack in accordance with Food Safety Standards, the National School Lunch Program and the Healthy School’s Act.

The responsibilities of the Food Service Aide include:


Food Delivery

  • Assemble and disburse snacks.
  • Collect and clean snack containers.
  • Organize classroom lunches for delivery.
  • Deliver lunches to classrooms.
  • Retrieve and clean delivery bags and containers.
  • Collect and clean snack containers.


Kitchen Maintenance

  • Ensure cooking equipment is powered and working.
  • Organize and store daily delivery.
  • Clean Kitchen.
  • Breakdown boxes.
  • Clean and breakdown service line.
  • Clean reheat kitchen (clean dishes, put food away, clean floors).
  • Document temperature for all refrigeration.
  • Clean Cafeteria after all lunch services.


Food Service

  • Prep for lunch (replenish plates, napkins, utensils).
  • Count and take temperature of incoming food delivery.
  • Prep food for reheating.
  • Setup up lunch line for all 3-lunch services.
  • Serve at assigned lunch periods.
  • Clean Cafeteria tables between lunches.
  • Take and record reheating temperatures.
  • Assemble and disburse breakfast to designated areas
  • Collect and clean breakfast carts.
  • Prep after school snack.


Other duties as assigned by Food Service Manager or Director of Operations.


Desired Qualifications:


  • Experience working in food service, preferable in a school setting
  • Ability to live and move objects up to 50lbs
  • Current DC Food Handlers Certificate preferred


In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a satisfactory criminal background check.
