“You can't fight these big fights on your own. You need to work with others, and you

need others if you're going to take care of the places that you love.”

-Jeanie Alderson, Northern Plains’ Past Chair

Northern Plains is a grassroots organization of people who love where we live.  For over 50 years, we have been standing shoulder-to-shoulder, to protect this place we all call home for ours and future generations.

We are working toward a future where we live in harmony with nature, where our economy serves the people rather than the people serving the economy, where neighbors work side-by-side to build a world that lives up to our ideals of fairness, inclusion, and justice.

LOCATION: Billings, Montana.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As the Development & Support Assistant for Northern Plains, you will be part of an engaged, supportive, and dedicated team working to make change happen at the grassroots level. You will provide critical support to every part of our organization and be part of the infrastructure that supports a statewide network of active and engaged Montanans.  Tasks for this position will range from reception and front-line administration to providing critical support to governance, fundraising, and program teams.

We are a team of hard-working, dedicated individuals who honor and promote a healthy work/life balance.  Our casual office environment is full of natural light, outbursts of laughter, and frequently visited by our furry, four-legged friends.

We value the health of our staff and members and adjust our operations in accordance with public health best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications are guidelines.  If you have at least some of these skills and you are excited to learn on the job, please apply.

  • Commitment to the democratic process, and environmental stewardship and conservation
  • Ability to get along well with people from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of
  • personalities
  • Ability to thrive in a job that includes a diverse set of activities and responsibilities
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent “people skills”
  • Ability to work efficiently with routine office equipment
  • Proficiency with software including (but not limited to) Microsoft Office, databases, web-based application, and demonstrate a willingness and ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology
  • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Ability to take direction and then work independently
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and sit, stand or walk for long periods of time

If you have prior experience working in an office setting or with nonprofit organizations, you have already started building the skills we need.  If not, this is your opportunity to join this movement and make meaningful change.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

Our compensation philosophy and structure flows from our belief that our people are the most important part of our organization.  We offer opportunities for growth and development, thriving wages, and ample benefits.

Salary for this position starts at $19.70 per hour.  We also offer employer paid health insurance; 20 days paid vacation plus paid 13 paid holidays (including the week from Christmas though New Year’s), paid sick & personal leave, paid parental leave, and a retirement plan.
