FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

POSITION SUMMARY

The full-time, temporary Participant Recruiter position serves as the American Councils program representative in the region and is responsible for all aspects of participant recruitment for secondary school programs including: reviewing and evaluating application materials; publicizing competitions; interviewing candidates; conducting prerequisite testing; and associated record keeping and reporting. This position requires long and non-standard work hours including weekends as well as extensive travel throughout the region. The Participant Recruiter will also be assigned remote work tasks with specific deadlines and quotas for reviewing application materials via a secure, online platform. The position reports to the Senior Director, FLEX and YES Field Operations and works in conjunction with FLEX/YES staff in the assigned country. The position is a short-term, full-time position beginning in mid-August 2024 and ending in late December with the possibility of an extension until February 2025.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend an online training conference in August and an overseas in-person conference in early October;

• Coordinate recruitment activities to ensure the timely and proper conduct of the competition;

• Review and evaluate application materials within set time limits;

• Conduct interviews with semi-finalist candidates;

• Complete all document and material processing;

• Conduct publicity outreach in cooperation with the local office;

• Conduct testing in-person or proctor online testing;

• Organize and participate in meetings with candidates and their parents;

• Complete all reporting on finances and recruitment activities;

• Complete other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

• Program administration experience;

• High proficiency (fluency preferred) in language(s) spoken in one or more of the countries below required;

• Experience traveling extensively under difficult conditions;

• Experience with multitasking in a time intensive environment;

• Experience studying in a U.S high school environment required;

• BA in relevant field (e.g. appropriate area language, or area studies, education, etc.) required.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSITION 

In 2024 it is anticipated that participant recruiters will travel throughout the region and work in more than one country from the list below. However, the U.S. Department of State and American Councils will continue to closely review conditions and travel warnings to determine whether travel overseas and to specific countries is appropriate. If travel to assigned countries is not possible participant recruiters will be assigned to another country or remote work which does not require travel to the region.


Possible countries include:  Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.
