Do you want to be on the frontlines of organizing to defend progress in Washington? Are you passionate about fighting against climate change and supporting progressive tax reform and a stronger public education system? Are you ready to help progressives win our most important issues and bring communities together? If so, this job may be for you! 


We are looking for a multi-talented individual to lead and manage the Defend Washington coalition’s outreach  efforts to defeat three regressive initiatives on the ballot this fall. This is an opportunity to be part of an ambitious plan to defend progress in Washington state.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Fuse is looking for an Outreach Director based in King County to help organize opposition to three initiatives on the ballot this fall: I-2109 to repeal the capital gains tax, I-2117 to repeal the Climate Commitment Act, and I-2124 to eliminate Washington’s long term care benefits. Your mission will be to build and support a network of groups and community leaders opposing the initiatives.  


This position will be housed at Fuse, and will support the Defend Washington Coalition.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Recruit and support local groups working  to defeat I-2109, I-2117, and I-2124 and generate progress in Washington state.
  • Manage systemic outreach to recruit organizational support for the No On 2109, No On 2117, No On 2124, and Defend Washington campaigns. 
  • Develop and drive requests/opportunities for endorsers and partners to support the campaigns.
  • Support motivated partners who need materials and/or guidance about how they can help support the no campaigns.
  • Build relationships with key organizations and leaders and engage in coalition work as needed.
  • Manage a Speaker’s Bureau and requests for speakers to community groups.
  • Support the No Campaigns field programs. Develop and drive opportunities to recruit local grassroots leaders and volunteers.
  • Organize visibility and recruitment at targeted events.
  • Ensure our local organizing supports and reflects racial equity goals.


QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

Work, volunteer, academic, and life experiences are all acceptable


  • At least two years of experience in organizing, campaigns, non-profits, and/or advocacy
  • Passion for building power through political organizing 
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to organize volunteers into highly functioning teams


  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, campaign style work environment
  • Excels at working in teams and coalitions 
  • Innovative, creative, and data-driven
  • Experience using social media platforms
  • Innovative and creative
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a good sense of humor
  • A commitment to community organizing as a means of social change
  • A valid drivers license and regular access to a vehicle


EXTRA CREDIT QUALIFICATIONS

These are desired skills, but not required for an applicant to be competitive. 

  • Familiarity with Washington State politics and communities 
  • Existing relationships with leaders in King County 


LOCATION

This organizer will be based in King County. This is a hybrid position with the expectation that the Defend Washington Organizer will be on site in the Seattle office at least two times a week.
