Get out the Youth Vote in 2024

Our democracy only works when we all participate. Young people are the largest and most diverse group of potential voters in the country, with our own values and our own ideas. Yet, our generation isn’t showing up to vote in high enough numbers.

That’s why our students and organizers are working to ensure young people are full participants in the political process by helping to turn out the vote in local, state and national elections through our New Voters Project. In the fall of 2020, we made nearly 400,000 peer-to-peer personal reminder contacts in the weeks leading up to Election Day, and we saw that hard work pay off. We saw record turnout among young people, and we’re keeping up this momentum in 2024.

The Student PIRGs’ New Voters Project is hiring Field Organizers to run its non-partisan voter registration and get-out-the-vote campaign in states across the country in the Spring and Fall of 2024.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Run a non-partisan voter registration and turnout campaign in a campus community.
  • Recruit and train a team of volunteers to help register 18-29 year olds, collect pledges to vote, and contact all of these young people to turn out the vote on Election Day.
  • Educate students and train new leaders. Campus Organizers teach citizenship and organizing skills. Campus Organizers also oversee an internship program, through which students can earn academic course credit for their work to boost youth voter engagement.
  • Build a coalition. Campus Organizers work with student volunteers and interns to build a diverse, invested coalition of organizations and people to boost youth voter turnout.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to public interest and/or student issues, as well as a track record of leadership. We’re looking for goal-driven and results-oriented individuals who have excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for the work. Candidates must have excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee significant projects.

PAY & BENEFITS

The annual compensation range for this position is $31,500 - $41,690 and depends on location, education and experience. Student PIRGs organizations offer an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid sick time (60-72 hours/year depending on location), accrued paid vacation time (accruing 10 days over year 1), our commuter benefit program, and may include needs-based student loan assistance. Employees who stay long term will be eligible for additional vacation (accruing 15 days over year 2, and 20 days over year 3 and thereafter), a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, and long-term disability insurance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
