EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

TITLE: Executive Director (Full-Time/Permanent)

ORGANIZATION: Philipstown Behavioral Health Hub (“The Hub”)

LOCATION: New York State: Mid-Hudson Valley Region Putnam County (Philipstown / Cold Spring)

SALARY: $80,000 + Bonus

START DATE: July 29, 2024 (Preferred)

WHO ARE WE?

Known as “The Hub”, the Philipstown Behavioral Health Hub is a recognized non-profit organization that provides local access to behavioral health and addiction resources in Putnam County, NY (Philipstown region).

Over the past decade, the region has lost many lives to fatal overdoses. Many more residents struggle with issues related to depression, anxiety and addiction. Despite the severity of this crisis, local residents have difficulty finding and accessing critical treatment and prevention resources, many of which are located outside the community.  We are finding that this is particularly true for children in need of in-person appointments.

The Hub was created to give residents a place to turn for local access to these resources. The Hub provides a single point of entry to behavioral health and addiction programs, services and education within the greater Philipstown area.

The Hub is young, just approaching its fifth anniversary.  At this time, however, The Hub is preparing to expand its work in many ways, including more space for programming.  These new opportunities require additional enthusiastic and committed staff members – including a knowledgeable and dedicated Executive Director leading the Hub’s ascension to “the next level” of great service!

HOW DO WE DO THIS?

  1. We coordinate resources among service providers, to ensure that our residents can get the help they need and no one slips through the cracks.
  2. We host events to educate the community, raise awareness, and reduce stigma associated with issues of mental health and addiction.
  3. We partner with community-based entities, such as local school districts, businesses, law enforcement, medical providers and non-profits to create innovative programming.

WHO ARE YOU?

You have a passion for helping people to help themselves and/or their families through crises.  The Philipstown Behavioral Health Hub runs on passion.  You are interested in mental health issues and in the challenges facing individuals with addictions.

You want to deliver high-quality behavioral health care to the community.  You are entrepreneurial and visionary with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with and build trust with various community stakeholders, including Hub employees, Board members, Advisory Board members, funders, donors, prospective funders and donors, Federal, State, and City officials, professional and technical groups, and client-participants.

You enjoy work that challenges you on a daily basis.  You are responsible, organized, effective, and efficient.  You are able to perform multiple assignments simultaneously.  You are results-oriented with a strategic mindset.

You welcome the opportunity to expand the capacity of an organization in delivering the most impactful service to its client-participants and the community-at-large through quality services and programming.

You appreciate working with talented colleagues as passionately dedicated to compassionate excellence as you are. You have great communication skills (effective/active listening, verbal and written), and you have strong coalition-building skills, with an ability to bring people together and implement identified priorities by building trust and achieving consensus.

WHAT IS THE POSITION?

As Executive Director ("ED"), you are the highest-ranking staff member of The Hub, reporting to the Board of Directors, with ultimate accountability for all resource development and operations.

You will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and will serve as the chief fundraiser and spokesperson for The Hub.  You will be the professional leader and “face” of The Hub.  You will ensure that all Philipstown residents – and more – know of The Hub and its impactful work.  You will continue to articulate the needs of Philipstown and Putnam County to all relevant audiences.

You must be able to cultivate, build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with a wide range of partners, including non-profit and community leaders, local residents, elected officials, business owners, and funders/donors, as well as with the Board of Directors and The Hub staff.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

Leadership (Applies to everything)

  • You will serve as a community leader and spokesperson while partnering with community stakeholders to identify and address critical community needs through appropriate initiatives.
  • You will provide inspirational leadership for The Hub, establishing effective decision-making processes that will enable The Hub to achieve its long and short-term goals and objectives.
  • You will cultivate a strong and transparent working relationship with the Board – fully engaging Board members in the development and grantmaking processes – and ensure open communication about the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals (pursuant to the strategic plan).
  • You will supervise the current staff of three employees, as well as any contractors, and recruit/retain a diverse team of talented professionals to fill additional staff positions as needed per the appropriate staffing structure.

Development & Marketing (75% of time)

  • You will engage in a comprehensive strategic planning process aimed at increasing The Hub’s capacity to make a strong positive impact in Putnam County.
  • You will collaborate with the Board over time to refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the operations and budget are aligned with The Hub’s core mission and values.
  • You will act as the primary driver for donor cultivation, donor solicitations and stewardship – the “front line” staff member, the “face” of The Hub.
  • You will develop and maintain deeply respectful, transparent, and open partner and donor/funder relationships, including retaining funding from current donors/funders and developing and attracting new funding to The Hub.  This includes, but is not limited to, working with the Board of Directors to identify and cultivate individuals, focusing on event participants and non-participants to ensure donor base growth, and developing a fundraising plan from donor data with projected goals and annual income reports against benchmarks.
  • You shall, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding and development strategies that will ensure consistency throughout the organization and enhance revenue from all sources, including funding from private foundations, corporate giving, and public sector funding.  This includes the writing and submission of grant proposals – and follow-up reports – as appropriate, as well as the creation of all communications materials that amplify the significance of The Hub’s work.

Hub Operations (25% of time)

  • You will design and manage day-to-day operations, including hiring, developing and supervising staff, overseeing grants administration, overseeing community and program-based activities, and maintaining compliance as well as contractual obligations.  This includes meeting regularly with the care coordination staff, as well as Board and Advisory Board members.
  • You will oversee the financial status of The Hub, including developing long- and short-range financial plans, monitoring the budget, ensuring that sound financial controls are in place, and establishing financial priorities that support the needs of The Hub.
  • You will institute and oversee the practices and policies of The Hub to ensure that funds are allocated properly and reflect both present and future needs.  This requires collaboration with the Operations Committee of the Board and the Board Treasurer, and includes regular income reports and forecasts, expense budget reports and forecasting, management of external audits and management of filings with the U.S. Department of Treasury - Internal Revenue Service.
  • You will confirm and/or implement best practices to protect the integrity of the non-profit, including, but not limited to confidentiality regarding participant information, operational transparency, fiscal and regulatory compliance, and donor communications.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS?

  • You have a proven track record of fundraising, partnerships and stewarding relationships with funders, Board members, and community members.
  • You are financially, politically, and technologically savvy, with a history of setting clear priorities, generating analysis, and problem-solving that support and enable sound decision making.
  • You are knowledgeable on issues and regulations applicable to charitable giving (accounting, legal, investment, etc.)
  • You have some experience in a start-up environment, in community organizing and/or with policy advocacy.
  • You possess a Master's degree (or higher) in a relevant field.
  • You have served at least five (5) years in a leadership role with proven results regarding fundraising and institutional advancement.  (Previous experience within Putnam, Duchess, Orange, Rockland or Westchester Counties is preferred, but not required.)
  • You are familiar and comfortable with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
  • You have a valid driver’s license.
  • You own or have regular access to a vehicle.
  • You are able to work evening and weekend hours.
  • Residence:  Ideally, you reside in either southern New York State, northern New Jersey, or southern Connecticut.
  • You have a commitment to assisting individuals (and those they impact) who are dealing with mental health and addiction-related challenges. “Lived experience” is preferred but not required.
  • Languages:  English, Spanish (preferred but not required)
