Descripción

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as an LGBTQ Programs and Organizing Associate. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to LGBTQ rights and advocacy, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a proven ability to engage and mobilize diverse communities.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Participate collaboratively and actively in coalitions with LGBTQ+  and allied organizations working across issues, identities, and communities on concerns impacting justice and equality for all LGBT people;
  • Execute plan to engage, develop, and assist local activists and leaders to build long-term community engagement throughout Massachusetts;
  • Represent MassEquality and its mission in the community;
  • Through a long-term community building lens, educate a range of audiences about issues of importance to the LGBT community, including but not limited to community, legislative and electoral organizing and advocacy, at conferences, workshops, trainings and through other public speaking (some travel required);
  • Regularly assess the success of community engagement efforts;
  • Serve as a resource to government agencies, service providers, members of the LGBTQ+ community and others on issues of community concern, including safety, discrimination, inclusion and other concerns;
  • Work to elect and re-elect pro-equality candidates, to register and educate voters;
  • Assess intern and volunteer recruitment needs and actively recruit them;
  • Train, coach and develop interns and volunteers;
  • Accurately track and assess volunteer recruitment efforts and volunteer productivity, and conduct regular reporting; 
  • Identify, cultivate, and develop relationships with community members, leaders and organizations across the Commonwealth
  • Develop and implement programs and initiatives to support LGBTQ individuals, families, and communities.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, trainings, and events on topics related to LGBTQ rights, identity, and inclusion.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts to expand the organization's reach and engagement with LGBTQ individuals and allies.
  • Collaborate with community partners, organizations, and stakeholders to leverage resources and maximize impact.
  • Provide support and resources to LGBTQ individuals facing discrimination, harassment, or other challenges.
  • Conduct research and analysis on LGBTQ issues, policies, and trends to inform advocacy efforts.
  • Mobilize volunteers and supporters to participate in advocacy campaigns, events, and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records, data, and reports related to program activities, outcomes, and impact.
  • Stay informed about local, national, and international LGBTQ news, developments, and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills; ability to connect with others, motivate and quickly gain trust with volunteers, staff, community members, and coalition partners.
  • A minimum of 2 years of organizing experience (including paid or volunteer) in community/field organizing and base building for issue-based or political campaigns.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social work, sociology, gender studies, etc.) preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in LGBTQ advocacy, community organizing, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of LGBTQ issues, identities, and experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusivity.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital organizing tools.
  • Valid automobile driver’s license and working vehicle required; this position will involve extensive travel throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
