Job Posting: Refugee Reception and Placement Case Manager

 

Interfaith Refugee and Immigration Service (“IRIS”) is a program of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and the Southern California-based affiliate office of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM). IRIS offers refugee resettlement assistance, intensive case management and immigration legal services to the low-income refugee and immigrant community of the greater Los Angeles region. IRIS provides gracious welcome as well as tangible tools and connections to help new arrivals achieve self-sufficiency in the United States. IRIS works to enhance the quality of life of our clients, expand community awareness of client needs, develop partnerships with other organizations to help our clients, and advocate on the local, state, and national level for refugee and immigrant needs and rights.

 

Job Location

Position will be based out of the IRIS office located at 3621 Brunswick Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90039. The job also entails traveling to and from community events and meetings.

 

Position Summary: Manage the newly arrived Refugee and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) arrivals in accordance to the Reception and Placement (R&P) Cooperative Agreements with Episcopal Migration Ministries and the United States Dept of State. This position will work with newly arrived individuals and families from various nationalities and cultures. This position reports to the Manager of Resettlement Services and IRIS Executive Director.

 

Essential Functions of the Job:

•      Assist new refugee arrivals in the navigation of and enrollment in social services including education, ESL, welfare, opening bank accounts, establishing health/mental health assistance and assessments, establishing social security, public assistance and other services upon arrival.

•      Conduct airport pick-up, intake, orientation, home visits, client appointments and other tasks as outlined in the U.S. Dept. of State Cooperative Agreement

•      Schedule and assist with appointments for newly arrived refugees.

•      Schedule and administer refugee home visits.

•      Maintain applications, records, and all required documentation according to program procedures; submit in a timely fashion and manage deadlines; ensure confidentiality.

•      Help the Refugee clients to find apartments, doctors, and other primary needs upon arrival.

•      Follow up with the recently arrive refugees that they received their Social Security cards.

•      Coordinate with Gov’t/IOM and airport staff to conduct airport greeting, pick-up and transportation to newly arrived refugees.

•      Identify, assess and communicate needs of clients to Supervisor and develop individualized plan to help newly arrived refugee/asylee families meet their needs/goals.

•      Attend regular and ongoing webinars/trainings

•      Schedule for Medical assessment appointments for the newly arrived refugees.

•      Remain in regular contact with newly arrived refugee clients to ensure their immediate needs are met and they are adjusting to life in the US.

•      Provide cultural and community orientation information for all new arrivals

•      Maintain an increasing knowledge of social service programs and partners to meet the various needs of IRIS’ clients. Assist clients enrolling in/accessing those services.

•      Translate and interpret for other departments as needed

•      Maintain grant reporting data on clients and services

•      Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

•      Fully bilingual, including reading and writing, in English and Spanish.

•      Proficient with Microsoft Office and experience in working with client database systems is preferred.

•      Ability to work well with people of diverse educational, cultural and professional backgrounds.

•      Ability to work with interpreters.

•      Previous experience and familiarity with refugee processing and social service navigation a plus

•      Valid driver's license and reliable transportation needed. Regular travel will be required. Mileage will be reimbursed.

•      Ability to work independently and as a team player – flexible, energetic, friendly, and responsible.

 

Compensation:                $55,100 plus overtime (non-exempt).

 

This is a full-time position with compensation being commensurate with experience. The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health (full medical, dental and vision coverage), retirement and generous vacation/holiday policy.  We currently offer a hybrid/remote working arrangement after the first six months of employment.  The Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles is an equal opportunity employer.
