The Wildlife Justice Commission is a young, innovative, mission-driven organisation, leveraging the rule of law and the power of investigation to stop the extinction of our planet’s wildlife. Position Overview

The Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC) is seeking a highly organised, self-motivated, and team-oriented Programs Reporting Officer to be part of its Strategic Information Hub which sits within the Investigations team.

The Strategic Information Hub plays a central role in connecting the various teams within the WJC, acting as a bridge between the operational and non-operational teams. The primary function of the Hub is to direct the strategic flow of information from the Investigations and Intelligence teams to other teams in the organisation and to develop high-quality content to support the organisation’s international growth, external relations, strategic partnerships, and communications requirements.

The Programs Reporting Officer will work closely with the Programs Liaison Manager, who leads the Strategic Information Hub, to actively contribute to the development of various products for both internal and external audiences, including publications, briefing papers, case studies, donor reports, fundraising proposals, and more.

Strong candidates for this position will have extensive technical writing experience and excellent research, analytical, planning, and communication skills. They will have meticulous attention to detail, sound editorial judgement, and the ability to write for both expert and non-expert audiences. They will also be flexible in their approach to work and comfortable collaborating with colleagues across all WJC teams in a global working environment.

Key responsibilities and duties

The Programs Reporting Officer’s responsibilities, in coordination with the Programs Liaison Manager, will include:

- Writing clear, accurate, engaging, and concise reports for publication based on WJC investigation findings and intelligence analysis, targeting law enforcement and policy maker audience groups.

- Monitoring global illegal wildlife trade trends, relevant international legal and policy developments, and national developments in key partner countries.

- Drafting technical input for donor reports.

- Supporting monitoring investigations funding needs and supplying investigative content to fundraising proposals and concept notes.

- Collaborating on the adaptation of investigation findings for external relations and policy work, and supporting the development of case studies, presentations and talking points for use in external events.

- Providing investigations content and input to the Communications team for the development of press releases, social media posts, blogs, and various multimedia products.

- Supporting the development of knowledge management products for internal use such as impact statements, factsheets, explainers relating to operational matters, etc.

- Supporting the preparation and management of internal information disseminations based on WJC investigations and intelligence analysis.

Qualifications and experience

- At least seven years of technical writing experience is required, including researching, drafting, and editing reports for publication.

- Relevant Bachelor’s degree is strongly desired.

- Excellent command of the English language is essential.

- Experience in the field of wildlife crime and/or transnational organised crime is desired.

- A creative flair with an analytical approach to developing written content is desired.

- Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret data from a range of sources.

- Ability to exercise sound editorial judgement in selecting and classifying information for different audiences and purposes.

- Excellent planning and organisational skills.

- Ability to manage deadlines with a consistently high level of quality and attention to detail.

- Independently motivated self-starter with confidence collaborating respectfully and productively across international teams.

Conditions

- WJC is offering a consultancy agreement through the end of 2025, with potential to extend beyond this.

- Compensation for the position will range between 50,000 - 65,000 USD annually with a desired weekly commitment average of 24-40 hours. Hourly rate and time commitment flexible for highly qualified candidates.

- While this position can work remotely from home in any location, the candidate will need a reasonable overlap within typical business hours of Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST)
