Job Summary: The Development Manager, Planned Giving, plays a critical role in securing financial support for the organization by developing and executing strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward planned gifts. This role requires a skilled and experienced professional with a deep understanding of estate planning, tax regulations, and financial vehicles pertinent to philanthropic giving. The Development Manager, Planned Giving, reports directly to the Director of Resource Development.

Status: Full-time, Nonexempt, Regular

Location: Chinatown neighborhood, San Francisco

Hours: Onsite, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Salary: $85,000 -$95,000; Comprehensive benefits

The Organization: A private non-profit founded in 1977, Chinatown Community Development Center believes in a comprehensive vision of community. We own and/or manage approximately 36 affordable housing buildings serving over 4,500 low-income seniors, single adults, formerly homeless adults, and families of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition, and Polk Gulch neighborhoods. We also build housing, develop grassroots leadership, and engage low-income residents and youth. Essential Functions

Primary Responsibilities (70%) 

  • Implementation of Planned Giving Programs: 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive planned giving programs with clearly defined objectives for the next one, three, and five years. 
  • Conceptualize and implement marketing collateral and communication strategies to promote the new planned giving programs. 
  • Establish a dedicated planned giving page on Chinatown CDC's website to facilitate engagement and information dissemination. 

Job Responsibilities

Secondary Responsibilities (30%)

  • Work with the Resource Development team to develop strategies to acquire new donors and increase revenues through special events, direct mail, and other initiatives. 
  • Cultivate and solicit gifts for campaigns and special projects.  
  • Plan, organize and execute special events, including the annual gala, Lunar New Year Luncheon, building celebrations, and other fundraising activities. 
  • Develop and produce periodic newsletters, annual reports, and organization brochures. 
  • Provide general support as needed in the operation of the resource development department.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Over five years of proven experience with demonstrated success in prospect identification, relationship cultivation, strategic planning, and solicitation of planned gifts, focus on working with high-net-worth individuals. 
  • Self-driven in developing prospect leads and advancing gift plans for potential donors, encompassing bequests from a will/trust, designating Chinatown CDC as a beneficiary of IRAs, real estate donations, life insurance policies, charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, etc. 
  • Demonstrates a strong passion for Chinatown CDC's mission and commitment to driving social impact. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven ability to secure six-figure or larger donations utilizing best practices, data mining, wealth screening and prospect researching. 
  • Exhibit sensitivity in working with a diverse population across ethnic, linguistic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Team, SharePoint, PowerPoint, word, Excel), Adobe InDesign Creative Suite, and donor management software to manage data analysis, generate reports, and craft donor communications. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel for donor stewardship and acquisition purposes. 
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is advantageous.
