Mission:

The mission of Bread for the City is to help Washington, DC residents living with low income to develop the power to determine the future of their own communities. We provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty. We seek justice through community organizing and public advocacy. We work to uproot racism, a major cause of poverty. We are committed to treating our clients with the dignity and respect that all people deserve.


Position Profile:

Bread for the City Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for financial oversight of the organization and serves as advisor to senior management, staff and the Board of Directors on all financial matters.  


Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Providing strategic financial leadership;
  • Coordination of financial, federal and cost reports audits;
  • Supervision of Finance Staff;
  • Support of the Human Resources function as applicable;
  • Investment and asset management, management of long-term debt/capital acquisition, financial compliance related to grant and restricted funds, insurance/risk administration;
  • Financial reporting and analysis and projections;
  • Annual budget development and monitoring;
  • Monitor capital grants expenses and reporting;
  • Oversight of Medical service revenue billing and collections and rates;
  • Oversight and administration of the organization’s procurement process.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and solid experience in finance and accounting required;
  • MBA or CPA preferred;
  • At least 5 years of financial and administrative management experience;
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment with expertise in fund accounting and accounting for fundraising preferred, experience in health care helpful;
  • Proficiency in budget preparation, analysis and financial planning;
  • Supervisory experience;
  • Experience with grants management and reporting;
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid and MCO ( managed care organizations) a plus; 
  • Knowledge of employee benefits administration;
  • Computer skills including experience operating financial and accounting reporting programs;
  • Ability to work with volunteers in a professional and collaborative manner;
  • Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar) and/or ability to learn new technology systems; 
  • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19;
