OVERVIEW

Smart from the Start (“Smart”) is family support, community engagement organization that has as its mission to promote the healthy development of children, youth and families living in under-resourced communities. Smart empowers them with the tools, resources and support they need to thrive. Programs and services are trauma-informed, strengths-based and reflects the rich diversity of those we engage.

Smart aims to:

• Expand and strengthen educational opportunities for children 0-17;

• Support parents and caregivers as the step confidently into their role as teacher and advocate;

• Provide clinical services and supports to children, youth and families while helping to increase economic stability and financial self-sufficiency;

• Build neighborhood will, understanding and capacity to support child and youth development;

and more.

Smart is offering a comprehensive, coordinated set of services for parents, caregivers and children to support school success, including home visiting, parenting education and support, adult education, information and referrals to vital services, fun and educational programs for parents and caregivers together, and activities to support a community-wide focus on child, youth and family wellbeing. Our counseling services are not funded through third party billing. We are a family-centered, community-based organization and want to encourage those who are resistant to traditional therapy to engage, and therefore staff are paid by Smart from the Start directly to ensure relationship-based vs system-focused relationship building.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CLINICIAN

• To provide a variety of counseling services including individual, group and family.

• To provide clinical services such as intake/diagnostic evaluations, case evaluations, and crisis intervention.

• To participate in liaison work with other agencies as required.

• To participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment

team.

• To participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision.

• To maintain clinical records in accordance with insurance regulations and established agency policies and procedures.

• To comply with clinical productivity standards as established by Clinical team.

• To participate in monthly staff meetings.

• To be available for after-hours telephone contact for clients in crisis.

• To participate in rotating backup clinical support via on-call cell phone rotation schedule.

• To perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY

Drivers license preferred. Ability to provide clinically sound treatment services based on client needs and treatment plans. Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic evaluation methods, mental status exams, and use of the DSM-V. Ability to respond to a range of clients’ needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches. Ability to provide appropriate crisis intervention services. Ability to maintain clinical records in timely compliance with agency policies and procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with other community agencies on behalf of clients and/or the agency. Demonstrated understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline. Ability to effectively organize time and responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline from an accredited educational institution required and LCSW or LICSW. Significant work experience with culturally diverse families and ethnically and economically diverse communities. Ability to develop strong working relationships with others (individuals, families, co-workers, and community agencies). Knowledge of and familiarity with Boston neighborhoods, community organizations, and schools. Superb written and oral communication skills. Ability to lead others, work independently, and work as part of a team. Preference given to candidates with fluency in either Spanish or Creole.

This position will report to the Smart from the Start Associate Director of Programs and Community Partnerships.

Hours: Full time (40 hrs/wk), possibly some evenings and weekends

Compensation: Starting salary is commensurate with experience.
